Welcome to QB List’s weekly rankings! Each week, I’ll be taking a look at the upcoming matchups and ranking each position, as well as flex positions.

Note: rankings will be updated throughout the week, so continue checking back here as the week goes on.

Week 3 Notes:

  • I really think Carson Wentz is the real deal. I’ve been preaching the good gospel of Carson Wentz since the preseason and he’s been nothing but excellent. I think he’s a top-10 QB the rest of the way. He’s playing the Giants this week, which is an excellent secondary, but I don’t even necessarily think that’s going to hurt him all that much. He’s still a borderline QB1 to me this week.

  • I probably look insane for ranking Jordan Howard as a borderline RB2/high-end flex this week, but I still believe that, assuming health, he’s the guy and not Tarik Cohen. The Bears aren’t going to just up and abandon Howard immediately for no reason. Now, if he’s hurt and doesn’t play, obviously Cohen’s spot will rise a bit, though I still see Cohen as an RB2, higher than Howard obviously.
  • I’ve got Jordy Nelson in my ranks assuming he plays. Last reports I heard said he’s about a 50/50 shot. If he plays, he’s a top-10 receiver, if not, Davante Adams will get a bit of a bump, and if Randall Cobb is out too, so will Martellus Bennett.
  • I’m concerned about Amari Cooper this week simply because I think he’s going to get the Josh Norman treatment, which I think will mean that Derek Carr will be looking more towards Michael Crabtree and Jared Cook than Cooper. Still, Cooper is a WR2 with obvious upside, but I think this will be a better Crabtree week than Cooper. I also think you can pretty easily run the ball on Washington, which means a nice day for Marshawn Lynch should be in store.
  • Even though Kelvin Benjamin is playing the awful Saints secondary, I’m concerned about him, and not because of the defense but because of the fact that Cam Newton is playing like junk. I just don’t know if the production is going to be there.
  • Just about each week, I think we’re going to see Sammy Watkins as a boom/bust play, and this week there’s a decent chance for a boom given he’s playing the 49ers garbage secondary. Same thought process behind my ranking of Cooper Kupp, who seems to be one of Jared Goff’s favorite targets now.
  • I’m not ready to give up on Jimmy Graham just yet, but I understand if you are. If he’s hampered by injury on Sunday and is still active, I might think twice before starting him, but if he’s healthy, I still think he’s a TE1.

    No MIA v NYJ?

I have this horrible re-occuring dream that Im starting Golladay( juicy game v the Lions) instead of either Amari ( Josh Norman) or Baldwin ( road game with a listless offense). Should i wake myself and return to reality or hit snooze and give it more careful consideration?

    Good question!

I personally would have them ranked as a top-10 defense, but the defensive rankings are actually the ones from this article:

I’ll include that in the note going forward, good point.

This was in reply to Chris, for some reason it didn’t post below him

@Chucky – I understand the hesitation, but I think that’s getting a little cute. Stick with Cooper or Baldwin in that scenario
