Analyzing All RBs and WRs Matchups – Week 2

Michael Collins analyzes all of the running back and wide receiver matchups for Week 2.

Italicized names below play Thursday night (Baltimore at Cincinnati).

Wide Receivers

Your WR1 WR1 Potential WR2 and WR3 Deep League Plays
Antonio Brown Jarvis Landry Amari Cooper Randall Cobb
Michael Thomas Adam Thielen/Stefon Diggs Corey Davis Jamison Crowder
Odell Beckham Jr. A.J. Green Sammy Watkins Tyler Lockett
Keenan Allen Davante Adams Nelson Agholor Sterling Shepard
DeAndre Hopkins T.Y. Hilton Marquise Goodwin Cooper Kupp
Tyreek Hill Mike Evans Brandin Cooks/Robert Woods Kenny Golladay
Julio Jones Larry Fitzgerald Chris Hogan Robby Anderson
Emmanuel Sanders/Demaryius Thomas Devin Funchess Will Fuller
JuJu Smith-Schuster Josh Gordon Keelan Cole
Allen Robinson Michael Crabtree Kelvin Benjamin
Marvin Jones Jr./Golden Tate Kenny Stills Pierre Garcon
Quincy Enunwa Mike Wallace

Your WR1 Options

Antonio Brown (PIT) vs. Kansas City Chiefs

You all know why he’s hear. Let’s just marvel at his touchdown catch from a week ago.

Michael Thomas (NO) vs. Cleveland Browns

Odell Beckham Jr. (NYG) @ Dallas Cowboys

Keenan Allen (LAC) @ Buffalo Bills

DeAndre Hopkins (HOU) @ Tennessee Titans

Julio Jones (ATL) vs. Carolina Panthers

Julio was initially in the next tier because he, for some reason (pointing at Matt Ryan), cannot string together consistent performances. But when the Carolina Panthers come to town, things change. Jones last three games in Atlanta versus Carolina are:

–  2015: 9 receptions, 11 targets, 178 yards, and 1 TD

–  2016: 12 receptions, 15 targets, 300 yards, and 1 TD

–  2017: 5 receptions, 11 targets, 80 yards

The most recent performance is not as much of a selling point as the others, but the point has been made.

Names Offering WR1 Potential

Jarvis Landry (CLE) @ New Orleans Saints

New Orleans gave up 417 yards through the air to Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jarvis Landry can do this:

Adam Thielen/Stefon Diggs (MIN) @ Green Bay Packers

A.J. Green (CIN) vs. Baltimore Ravens

Davante Adams (GB) vs. Minnesota Vikings

T.Y. Hilton (IND) @ Washington Redskins

Mike Evans (TB) vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Larry Fitzgerald (ARI) @ Los Angeles Rams

Emmanuel Sanders/Demaryius Thomas (DEN) vs. Oakland Raiders

JuJu Smith-Schuster (PIT) vs Kansas City Chiefs

Allen Robinson (CHI) vs. Seattle Seahawks

I have zero statistics to really suggest Allen Robinson will have a good week. I could highlight that Emmanuel Sanders torched the secondary for 10 receptions and 135 yards plus a score, but they’re different players. Honestly, this is the same gut instinct that led me to recommend Chris Hogan last week. Nevertheless, here’s my frivilous prediction that Robinson finishes with 15+ points against Seattle (using PPR as a buffer).

Marvin Jones Jr./Golden Tate (DET) @ San Francisco 49ers

WR2 and WR3 Slots

Amari Cooper (OAK) @ Denver Broncos

Corey Davis (TEN) vs. Houston Texans

The loss of Delanie Walker means that Marcus Mariota loses yet another option out of his very thin receiving corps. Last week’s game is a bit of a wash as it took some six or seven hours, it was slippery, and somehow the teams managed to score 34 points in the fourth after scoring 13 in the first 45 minutes. What can be taken from that is Davis leading the team with 13 receptions, Walker having had 7 balls thrown his way, possibly means even more looks for the second-year man.

Sammy Watkins (KC) @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Nelson Agholor (PHI) vs. @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Marquise Goodwin (SF) vs. Detroit Lions

Robert Woods/Brandin Cooks (LAR) vs. Arizona Cardinals

Chris Hogan (NE) @ Jacksonville Jaguars

Devin Funchess (CAR) vs. @ Atlanta Falcons

Josh Gordon (CLE) @ New Orleans Saints

Michael Crabtree (BAL) @ Cincinnati Bengals

Kenny Stills (MIA) @ New York Jets

Stills cheated by scoring on 50% of his touches and hurting most owners who had him on their bench because who starts Kenny Stills Week 1? Nevertheless, the Jets were aggressive on defense against Detroit, allowing space over the top on occasion. That young secondary is no joke, and consistent play up front will be a headache for Ryan Tannehill.

Deep League Plays

Randall Cobb (GB) vs. Minnesota Vikings

Jamison Crowder (WAS) vs. Indianapolis Colts

Tyler Lockett (SEA) @ Chicago Bears

Sterling Shepard (NYG) @ Dallas Cowboys

The loss of Doug Baldwin does mean that Tyler Lockett is likely the best week-to-week option in Seattle. Nevertheless, Brandon Marshall led the team in targets a week ago, and Lockett has just 4 touchdown receptions in his last 32 games. Bright side: he played every snap minus one a week ago and Russell Wilson’s lack of time to throw means quick routes to Lockett could work out.

Cooper Kupp (LAR) vs. Arizona Cardinals

Kenny Golladay (DET) @ San Francisco 49ers

Robby Anderson (NYJ) vs. Miami Dolphins

Quincy Enunwa returned to the field Monday Night and was a clear favorite of Sam Darnold, nearly matching the rest of the team with 10 targets. Robby Anderson was actually targeted just once in the win, but it was a beautiful opportunity.

Darnold proved the stage is not too big for him, and while the team will not be coasting to 31 point wins each week, the offense is looking better. Miami’s defense benefitted from the weather against Tennessee, but they also boast a lot of talent. New York will need to stretch the defense with shots downfield, and that is Anderson’s calling card.

Will Fuller (HOU) @ Tennessee Titans

Keelan Cole (JAC) vs. New England Patriots

Kelvin Benjamin (BUF) vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Pierre Garcon (SF) vs. Detroit Lions

Mike Wallace (PHI) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Whoever gets the carries on Drew Brees’ team is a great RB… ever since the Saints decided to prioritize the running game over wins a few years ago whoever gets the carries has been a monster. The Chargers are also utilizing this philosophy to which Melvin Gordon owes his fantasy relevance. In the past it was usually split two or three ways… I like to try to give the credit to one of the best QB to ever suit up as opposed to the carries that get gifted to whomever is in the backfield. I don’t know that Kamara isn’t special, but I know that Mark Ingram isn’t, nor was Pierre Thomas or whoever else has benefited from Brees’ legacy.

I think youre way too low on Marshawn, he was getting fed early and looked like a feature back but he got sick on the sidelines to they slowed his usage, no way Richard eats so many of his targets again
