Looking Ahead: The Top 50 Fantasy Players Under 25

Eli Grabanski takes a look at the best fantasy assets under the age of 25.

In dynasty and keeper league it is vital to look ahead and figure out which players have the potential to be the next big thing. But who are some younger players to watch out for? I decided to rank the top 50 fantasy assets under the age of 25. For the purposes of this list, we are basing it off of what age they will be on January 1st, 2020. Also for simplicity sake, no college prospects will be on this list until they are drafted (though if you are interested in some names to watch, check out the “Notes” section of the article). Without further ado, here are the top fantasy assets under the age of 25.

Notes

  • Aaron Jones (RB, Green Bay Packers), Amari Cooper (WR, Dallas Cowboys), Tyreek Hill (WR, Kansas City Chiefs), Chris Carson (RB, Seattle Seahawks), Todd Gurley (RB, Los Angeles Rams), Derrick Henry (RB, Tennessee Titans), Evan Engram (TE, New York Giants), Calvin Ridley (WR, Atlanta Falcons), Austin Hooper (TE, Atlanta Falcons), Tyler Boyd (WR, Cincinnati Bengals), Mike Williams (WR, Los Angeles Chargers), Phillip Lindsay (RB, Denver Broncos), Jordan Howard (RB, Philadelphia Eagles), Gerald Everett (TE, Los Angeles Rams), OJ Howard (TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Marquez Valdes-Scantling (WR, Green Bay Packers), and Jared Goff (QB, Los Angeles Rams) narrowly missed the age requirement by less than one year.

  • For the most part a lot of the players on this list are running backs due to less of a learning curve from college football to NFL ball. This makes non-RB superstars like Chris Godwin (WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers), JuJu Smith-Schuster (WR, Pittsburgh Steelers), Lamar Jackson (QB, Baltimore Ravens), Patrick Mahomes (QB, Kansas City Chiefs), and DeShaun Watson (QB, Houston Texans) top 15 rankings all the more impressive.

  • Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Deshaun Watson are the clear top young quarterbacks, but Kyler Murray could take a giant step forward next year and Baker Mayfield could bounce-back next year if his situation improves.

  • Rookie TEs tend to struggle, but watch for potential breakouts from TJ Hockenson and Noah Fant next year. Also don’t forget about Seattle tight end Will Dissly who was balling out as a sophomore before suffering a season-ending injury.

  • In terms of quarterbacks in college that could make this list, watch out for Joe Burrow (QB, LSU) and Tua Tagovailoa (QB, Alabama) if they declare for the 2020 NFL draft. Other names worth monitoring are Justin Herbert (QB, Oregon), Jake Fromm (QB, Georgia), Jordan Love (QB, Utah State), and Jacob Eason (QB, Washington).

  • Some college running back prospects to keep an eye on that could make this list are: D’Andre Swift (RB, Georgia), Chubba Hubbard (RB, Oklahoma State), Jonathan Taylor (RB, Wisconsin), J.K. Dobbins (RB, Ohio State), Cam Akers (RB, Florida State), and Travis Etienne (RB, Clemson). Some other names worth monitoring that could end up on this list are Kylin Hill (RB, Mississippi State), Zack Moss (RB, Utah), Lamical Perine (RB, Florida), Ke’Shawn Vaughn (RB, Vanderbilt), Scottie Phillips (RB, Ole Miss), and Najee Harris (RB, Alabama).

  • At the college level some pass catchers to watch out for are: Jerry Jeudy (WR, Alabama), CeeDee Lamb (WR, Oklahoma), Henry Ruggs (WR, Alabama), Laviska Shenault Jr. (WR, Colorado), Jalen Reagor (WR, TCU), Antonio Gandy-Golden (WR, Liberty), Tamorrion Terry (WR, Florida State), Gabriel Davis (WR, Central Florida), Justin Jefferson (WR, LSU), DeVonta Smith (WR, Alabama), and Tee Higgins (WR, Clemson). This is a very deep WR draft class so there may be more names to keep an eye out for if they get drafted to the right situation.

I stopped reading once I saw Jackson was ranked ahead of Mahomes.

    • Eli Grabanski says:

Understandable opinion as they are neck and neck in terms of fantasy. My personal reasoning behind ranking Jackson one spot ahead of Mahomes is because of the rushing upside of Lamar Jackson. He’s already averaging 20+ PPG in most leagues, so if 22 year-old Lamar makes more improvements in his passing ability (which he has every year since he arrived at Louisville in college), we could see unprecedented levels of fantasy dominance by a QB.

  2. Bob Smith says:

Sure Mahomes has already been hurt this season, but long term, rushing QBs are more vulnerable to injury which should knock Jackson down. Plus a rushing QB should never be considered to be QB1.
