QB Streamers to Add for Week 9

It's make or break time for you fantasy team, no doubt! Who can you rely on to do a job in Week 9?

Every week, we bring you our advice on which signal-callers have the potential to help your fantasy teams win. We will consider recent performances, the quarterbacks’ supporting cast, the matchup, and add some smart statistical insights to offer you the clearest picture of which QB to pick up from your waiver wire.

Week 8 of the NFL is in the books, and it was one of the most productive for quarterbacks, with at least 12 signal-callers finishing with over 20 fantasy points. Within that group, six were under 70% rostered, with Bo Nix (25% rostered) finishing as the QB2 for the week. It seems the age of the streaming quarterback is upon us.

Week 9 sees just two teams on bye, with Steelers veteran Russell Wilson and 49ers superstar Brock Purdy missing out.

We will only consider quarterbacks who are less than 70% rostered in Yahoo! leagues to give you an honest chance at picking one up for your team’s matchup. So, with that caveat, let’s look at the lay of the land for Week 9 of the 2024 NFL season and highlight our recommendations.

QB Streamers

“Old Toys, New Tricks”

Matthew Stafford, Rams at Seahawks

Matthew Stafford threw four touchdown passes under the lights on Thursday Night Football as he enjoyed having primary wideouts Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp back in the lineup. Stafford looked like a resurrected man with his old toys to play with, and Head Coach Sean McVay dialed up some creative new plays to kickstart his veteran quarterback’s season. With a healthy batch of weapons, Stafford and the Rams visit Seattle in a huge divisional matchup. The Seahawks struggled mightily against the Bills’ multi-faceted offense, and Stafford should see the same joy as Josh Allen did.

“Captain Kirk 2.0”

Kirk Cousins, Falcons vs. Cowboys

Another veteran quarterback who threw for four scores in Week 8, Kirk Cousins is enjoying his time in the pocket behind a solid offensive line and a hodgepodge of talented receivers who feel they have something to prove. Whether it be Darnell Mooney wanting to stick to the Bears, Drake London trying to prove his draft capital, or Kyle Pitts finally seeing the opportunity to show he can be a top tight end for fantasy purposes, Cousins has no shortage of talented receivers looking to prove the doubters wrong. Not to mention there is also the added weapon of Bijan Robinson out of the backfield. Cousins gets a simply horrible Dallas defense at home in Week 9 coming off a shellacking by the 49ers, who run a similar scheme… what more could you ask for in a matchup?!

“Let’s Go Around Again”

Sam Darnold, Vikings vs. Colts

Resurgent Vikings signal-caller Sam Darnold has thrown touchdowns in five of his six games this season, with all but one of those games a multi-touchdown pass affair. When you combine that with a talented play-caller in Kevin O’Connell and an elite receiver set led by Justin Jefferson, Darnold has all the tools to succeed. The return of tight end T.J. Hockenson from injured reserve adds another arrow to his bow. The Colts are giving up the 10th-most fantasy points to the quarterback position in 2024 and with the added threat of Aaron Jones catching passes out of the backfield (an achilles heel for Indianapolis so far this year), this is a plus matchup for the Minnesota quarterback.
