QB Streamers: Week 1

Diving into three QBs to stream to help win your weekly matchup!

Welcome back to another year of fantasy football coverage and analysis at QB List! I’m Griffey Geiss, brand new to the football staff this season, and I’m happy to announce that I’ll be taking over and/or working on a handful of weekly projects such as this publication — finding and diving into at least three quarterbacks per week that can help win your fantasy matchups.

I’m bringing back a majority of what we saw last year in this series — one main piece of criteria was that the quarterbacks should have a sub-70% roster rate (on Yahoo! Sports). I’ll use previous performances, the supporting cast (i.e., injuries, inactives play a role), matchups, and plenty of data to paint you a picture of which QBs to pick up to dominate the week.

With that being said, let’s take a look back at the 2024 NFL season…

Last season was the year of Lamar Jackson. He finished as the clear-cut QB1 with 434.38 points, nearly a fifty-point difference from his next closest competitor, Josh Allen. Veterans Joe Burrow (#3), Baker Mayfield (#4), Jared Goff (#6), and Jalen Hurts (#8) all turned in productive years, while two rookies — Jayden Daniels (#5) and Bo Nix (#7) — burst onto the scene with top 10 production. We saw regression from stars like Patrick Mahomes II, Justin Herbert, and C.J. Stroud, while others like Sam Darnold, Geno Smith, and Kyler Murray stepped up big-time.

With the lack of quality rookie QBs in this year’s crop of talent, all eyes will be on second-year starters like Caleb Williams or Drake Maye, both signal callers who showed some promise and got a boost in their supporting cast this offseason. Vikings’ J.J. McCarthy steps into an uber-friendly QB environment as he makes his NFL debut this year. He remains an intriguing target not only because of the star talent around him, but because of his mobile ability. All in all, there is so much talent at this position heading into 2025.

Now it’s time to take a peek at the best Week 1 streaming options…

Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers

QBL Rank Opponent Matchup Rating Roster Rate Proj. Points
11 DET 3/5 69% 16.46

Yep, I should get this out of the way — I’m a huge fan of Jordan Love, an uber-underrated QB that, when healthy, is super effective distributing the ball to all parts of the field. He’s back in action and a full-go at practice after undergoing successful thumb surgery after the Packers’ first preseason game, notably wearing a brace there that fantasy managers should expect him to do so during at least the first few weeks in 2025. He faces the Lions on Sunday, a team he’s played really well against when healthy (see: 2023 campaign), averaging ~18 points per game over the past two years against the division rival. In fact, his best game last season (despite the injury) came against the Lions in Week 14, per PFF, at an 83.8 grade. He’s just under that 70% rostership threshold, so there’s a decent chance he’s available in your league.

Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars

QBL Rank Opponent Matchup Rating Roster Rate Proj. Points
13 CAR 5/5 50% 17.19

Clemson phenom Trevor Lawrence looks to put together a healthy campaign with a new head coach, offensive guru Liam Coen, and some exciting supporting cast pieces like star wideout Brian Thomas Jr., dynamic two-way star Travis Hunter, potential breakout candidate Brenton Strange, and a healthy backfield with Travis Etienne Jr. and Tank Bigsby leading the charge. This is the best group of skill players Lawrence has had in his pro career.

With Lawrence, it’s simple: he’s a high-risk/high-reward QB. He’s going to take chances, let the ball fly, and make big throws, but with that comes a higher percentage of turnovers. His 88.7 PFF grade when going deep, let alone the 91.0 grade throwing deep center, says all you need to know. TLaw faces one of the worst defenses in all of football this Sunday… he should produce.

Tua Tagovailoa

QBL Rank Opponent Matchup Rating Roster Rate Proj. Points
18 IND 4/5 25% 16.87

Former first-rounder Tua Tagovailoa is really hit or miss. He’s turned in some elite performances, then again, there have been games you look back and just ask yourself, “what the heck happened here?”. A great note from PFF — he finished outside of the top 18 fantasy QBs in over half of his games, including six where he was held for sub-240 passing yards. When he “booms”, however, it’s substantial, leading to 300+ yard games with 4+ TDs. There are certainly some health question marks, not only with Tua (4+ games missed in 4 of 5 pro years) but his entire offense (Wright: doubtful / Hill, Achane, Eskridge: questionable). At the very least, he has a favorable matchup in Indianapolis to start his season and should have most of his supporting cast around him to help produce a boom week in Week 1. He’s a solid QB2 option in SF leagues this week.

That’s it for this week! If there are any questions, comments, concerns, or you want to see more (MLB, NFL, etc.), feel free to hit my official Pitcher List/QB List social media up @ggeiss_PL and I’d be happy to chat!
