Welcome back to another week of QB streamers, where I highlight three signal callers with sub-70% roster rates (on Yahoo! Sports) based on a variety of different reasons — personnel, weapons, previous performances, analytics, matchups, and so on.
Week 3 wasn’t a big week in terms of yardage for QBs. Chargers’ Justin Herbert was the top dog, throwing for 300 yards against the Broncos. Bears’ Caleb Williams popped off against the Cowboys’ defense, throwing for four touchdowns. Ravens’ Lamar Jackson dazzled, per usual, turning in a 148.1 passer rating, throwing for three touchdowns, and rushing for 35 yards in a high-scoring affair against the Lions. It was Seahawks’ Sam Darnold, however, that posted this week’s best passer rating at 154.2… just a few ticks behind this year’s weekly record, owned by Jared Goff in Week 2.
In other news, Drake Maye’s development continues to skyrocket, Daniel Jones remains a superb option at QB in fantasy, and two backups — Carson Wentz and Marcus Mariota — both did their job finishing inside the top 10 in passer rating this week.
Now, let’s dive into which QBs to stream in Week 4!
Marcus Mariota, Washington Commanders
Opponent | Matchup Rating | Yahoo! Roster Rate | Proj. Pts |
@ ATL | 4/5 | 6% | 0* |
Speaking of Mariota, here he is! He looked good for the most part in his season debut with Washington, going 15-for-21 (71% completion), throwing for one touchdown, and converting a two-point attempt. He also rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown. Mariota may not be Jayden Daniels, but he did provide everything Washington asked him to. I loved the way they gameplanned for his legs, utilizing RPOs and play action dropbacks.
*As of this moment, Daniels is still considered day-to-day, hence Mariota’s projected zero fantasy points entering Week 4. Does Daniels return this week? Nobody knows for sure yet. That’s why it’s a safe bet to pick up Mariota as a cheap stopgap option just in case. If not? Oh well.
Geno Smith, Las Vegas Raiders
Opponent | Matchup Rating | Yahoo! Roster Rate | Proj. Pts |
vs. CHI | 3/5 | 28% | 18.35 |
Smith appears to be quite the boom or bust option at QB this year. In Week 1, he lit up an injured Patriots secondary for 362 yards. Then, he proceeded to follow up that performance with not one, not two, but three interceptions against a Chargers defense that lost key contributor Khalil Mack early in the game. He bounced back, though, going 19-for-29 (66%) with 289 yards, three touchdowns, and a converted two-point attempt in Week 3.
The offensive line is still such a massive problem for Smith and the Raiders as a whole. He barely has time to make his reads before he’s under duress. Notably, two of Smith’s three touchdown passes came in the fourth quarter when the game was essentially put to bed. He was ok, not great, last week. This is a shot in the dark — a mixed bag. Relying on a QB with iffy command that will be under pressure all game may not be your best bet, but there’s no doubt Smith will be able to generate points if he’s on. If.
Spencer Rattler, New Orleans Saints
Opponent | Matchup Rating | Yahoo! Roster Rate | Proj. Pts |
@ BUF | 3/5 | 3% | 12.82 |
Rattler continues to fly under the radar, and I think that’s a good thing considering this week’s options in the QB streaming department. He’s not going to blow you away, but Rattler does look generally composed in the starting role, distributing the ball well and occasionally taking off if need be. The Saints, being a putrid team (with all due respect), are forced to throw the ball often — something that will benefit Rattler owners. He ranks 3rd amongst all QBs in passing snaps, dropbacks, and attempts. Evidently, that will likely be the case facing an elite team in the Bills this week.
That’s it for this week! If there are any questions, comments, concerns, or you want to see more (MLB, NFL, etc.), feel free to hit my official Pitcher List/QB List social media up @ggeiss_PL and I’d be happy to chat!
