Quarterback Streamers: Week 7

Diving into three QBs to stream to help win your weekly matchup!

Welcome back to another week of QB streamers, where I highlight three signal callers with sub-70% roster rates (on Yahoo! Sports) based on a variety of different reasons — personnel, weapons, previous performances, analytics, matchups, and so on.

Week 6 was filled with some underrated performances at the QB position. It was the 49ers’ Mac Jones who led the league in passing yards, throwing for 347 yards in their loss to Tampa. Cardinals’ Jacoby Brissett, filling in for an injured Kyler Murray, started slow but really got going in the second half. He ended up with 320 passing yards, good for second this week. Four QBs tied for the lead in passing touchdowns: Dak Prescott, Drake Maye, Patrick Mahomes, and Bryce Young. Maye, of course, led the week again in passer rating with an outstanding 140.1 mark. It was perfect — no joke — at halftime. His development continues to turn heads. Oh, and Dolphins’ wideout Jaylen Waddle ended with a better passer rating (100) than fifteen actual QBs.

Now, let’s dive into which QBs to stream in Week 7!

Joe Flacco, Cincinnati Bengals

vs. PIT 3/5 8% 12.10

The 40-year-old Joe Flacco continues to make an impact, though this year it’s been pretty watered down to say the least. Flacco isn’t his youthful self — we know that. The Bengals’ offensive line is pretty abysmal, leading to tons of extra pressure and, with that, Flacco needing to move outside the pocket like he did against the Packers on Sunday. It’s not pretty, but after being acquired earlier in the week, he was rushed into the system and kept his team in the game.

The main reason Flacco is a streamer candidate is the volume. In his Cincy debut, Flacco attempted 45 passes in a new offense, throwing for two touchdowns and turning in a season-best 90.9 passer rating. He’ll face off against a Steelers defense this week that’s allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to QBs this season.

Jaxson Dart, New York Giants

@ DEN 2/5 32% 15.05

Jaxson Dart has excelled in his first few weeks as a starter in the Big Apple. Again, these may not be pretty stat lines (just one of his first three games throwing for 200+ yards), but he’s gotten the job done. Not to mention, that masterful Thursday Night win against Philadelphia should inspire some confidence in the guys as they look to take on a good Broncos defense. It’s not the passing game that makes Dart such an intriguing target. Sure, he’s thrown for a touchdown in all three of his starts (with a passer rating of 96.0 or better in two of the three), but his ability to run is the standout trait, and what makes him such a high-floor add. He’s rushed a whopping thirty times in three games, totaling at minimum 50 yards per game, and scoring two touchdowns since taking over at QB. Even Lamar Jackson isn’t putting up those rushing numbers.

Dillon Gabriel, Cleveland Browns

Opponent Matchup Rating Yahoo! Roster Rate Proj. Pts
vs. MIA 3/5 5% 13.30

The Browns moved on from Flacco, and in steps the rookie, Dillon Gabriel. While his debut was iffy, as one would expect, some signs lead me to believe he could be worth an add. Gabriel went 29-for-52 (55.8%) with 221 yards against the Steelers last week. He’s set to face the Dolphins defense, a team that’s allowed the second-most fantasy points to QBs on a weekly basis (23.3 PPR points per game), and it’s not even close. Miami is brutal. They have yet to allow less than 27 points in a single game this season (and rank fourth-worst in total points allowed), not to mention third-worst in overall yards allowed.

Could a winning performance from Gabriel knock McDaniel out of Miami? I think it may. As far as the fantasy outlook, I’m cautiously optimistic. I really like the volume and matchup, not to mention he’ll be an ultra-cheap pickup.
