Welcome back to another week of QB streamers, where I highlight three signal callers with sub-70% roster rates (on Yahoo! Sports) based on a variety of different reasons — personnel, weapons, previous performances, analytics, matchups, and so on.
Week 7’s passing leader was none other than Justin Herbert, who threw for a whopping 420 yards on 55 attempts, generating 3 touchdowns despite the loss to Indianapolis. Second-week Cincinnati signal caller Joe Flacco looks good in his new orange, finishing second in passing yards with 3 TDs. Rams’ Matthew Stafford had himself a bounce-back week, leading all Week 7 QBs with five passing touchdowns. It was Eagles’ Jalen Hurts who finally dethroned Drake Maye as this week’s passer rating leader, though Maye couldn’t help finishing in second with a higher completion rate.
Now, let’s dive into which QBs to stream in Week 8!
Joe Flacco, Cincinnati Bengals
Opponent | Matchup Rating | Yahoo! Roster Rate | Proj. Pts |
vs. NYJ | 4/5 | 12% | 12.96 |
Last week, I threw 40-year-old Joe Flacco’s name into the top slot among QB streamers, and he certainly didn’t let me down. I’m running it back with him in Week 8. Flacco dominated in the “Unc Bowl” against the Steelers and their 41-year-old signal caller, Aaron Rodgers, going 31-for-47 (66%) with a season-high 342 yards, 3 TDs, and a 108.6 passer rating. His connections with star wideouts Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are also of note — Chase was targeted a whopping 23 times on Thursday, hauling in 16 receptions for 161 yards and a TD, while Higgins had 10 targets, 6 receptions, 96 yards, and a touchdown. Higgins’ only two 50+ yard games have come with Flacco under center, and Chase has 35 targets over those two weeks.
The Bengals are letting Flacco air it out, and I’m all in. The Jets have a middle-of-the-pack defense in terms of PPR points allowed per game to quarterbacks, yards per game, and other metrics. I like this matchup.
Jaxson Dart, New York Giants
Opponent | Matchup Rating | Yahoo! Roster Rate | Proj. Pts |
@ PHI | 2/5 | 42% | 12.57 |
Another pick I’m running it back with in Week 8. Dart has looked more than exceptional since stepping into the starting QB job in New York, and he made a significant improvement last week. My whole concept around streaming Dart was that his ability to run and gain extra yardage gave him such a high floor. Sure, he may not light it up in the passing game, but he’ll be efficient and remain a dual-threat. Last week, Dart threw for 283 yards — by far a career-high mark — and tallied three passing touchdowns. That gives him a tuddy via the air in every game he’s started. Not to mention, he also has two consecutive games with a touchdown on the ground.
Just thinking of the Eagles as a matchup may give you doubts, I’m sure, but this is a team that New York’s already beaten once. Not to mention, they line up pretty much even with the Jets (listed above) as a middle-of-the-pack defense against QBs in the PPR format and have allowed 28+ points in four of their last 5 games.
Carson Wentz, Minnesota Vikings
Opponent | Matchup Rating | Yahoo! Roster Rate | Proj. Pts |
@ LAC | 2/5 | 5% | 4.5 |
I listed Wentz third because it’s still unclear, per multiple reports, whether J.J. McCarthy is healthy enough to start or, frankly, whether or not he will start. I’m confident either would provide decent production, but I’m leaning toward Wentz for this week. He’s coming off a performance against Philly where he went 26-for-42 (62%) with 313 yards, plus four carries for 28 yards. He did not have a touchdown, but he led the Vikings’ offense into field goal range quite often. It’s only a matter of time before some of those additional conversions lead to redzone opportunities, and with those, touchdowns.
Over the past three weeks, Wentz has thrown for a combined 899 yards. The Chargers have allowed 27+ points per game and 724 air yards over that same span.
That’s it for this week! If there are any questions, comments, concerns, or you want to see more (MLB, NFL, etc.), feel free to hit my official Pitcher List/QB List social media up @ggeiss_PL and I’d be happy to chat!
