Buffalo Bills

Quarterback:

  • Josh Allen (start, low-QB1)

Allen has one top-12 fantasy finish through eight games this season. However, he has shown a great floor finishing between QB10 and QB15 in 6 of 8 games. The Bills offensive line is 27th in adjusted sack rate and the Browns are top-10 in sacks and above average in pressure percentage as well. Allen should be under pressure a decent amount of this game and he only has a 55 QB rating while under pressure this year (26th of 36 QBs). Allen brings a great floor with his rushing skills (seven + rush attempts in 6 of 8 games). Allen is a fine option this week and always has a chance for a monster game as we saw last year.

Running Backs:

  • Devin Singletary (start, low-RB2)
  • Frank Gore (sit, bench)

It seems we have a changing of the guard in Buffalo at their running back position. Singletary has now out-snapped Gore 68% and 66% to 28% and 34% in the last two games. Unlike two weeks ago when they trailed most of the game, last week handled the Redskins pretty easily. Singletary has 30 touches, 189 yards, two touchdowns the last two games compared to Gore’s 20 touches and 49 scoreless yards. The Bills are third in adjusted line yards on the season and the Browns are an unimposing 21 in run defense DVOA. They are getting shredded for a 4.85 yards per carry to opposing running backs. Singletary is an RB2 this week with room for more. Gore has one target since week five and can be ignored in PPR leagues.

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends

  • John Brown (start, mid-WR2)
  • Cole Beasley (sit, desperate flex/bench)
  • Dawson Knox(sit, wire)

Brown hasn’t popped up for one of those splash play, ceiling type games yet. However, he does have 50+ yards and five or more targets in every game this season. He is 10th at receiver in deep targets (20+ yards) but his long on the season is still 38 yards from week one. He is a solid WR2 this week and there is always the chance for a popup monster game from him. Beasley leads the team in red-zone targets and targets inside the ten. That is why he leads the team in receiving touchdowns. In the last four weeks he has been tied for first, tied for second, tied for fourth, and fifth in terms of targets on the team. He doesn’t get consistent usage for us to play him every week but he has a good matchup on paper against the Browns who struggle to cover the slot well. Knox has three total targets in the last two games since Tyler Kroft has returned from injury and can be avoided in fantasy.

Cleveland Browns

Quarterback:

  • Baker Mayfield (sit, low-QB2)

Mayfield is the QB23 in fantasy through nine weeks. He has an atrocious 12 interceptions to seven passing touchdowns through eight games. The Browns now go up against the Bills who are giving up the third-fewest points per game and third-fewest yards per attempt to opposing quarterbacks. Mayfield has one top-12 performance on the year and the Bills defense has only allowed one performance of QB17 or better in 2019. He should not be played or owned in standard leagues.

Running Backs:

  • Nick Chubb (start, low/mid-RB1)
  • Kareem Hunt (sit, bench)

This is Hunt’s first game off of his suspension. The Browns have said that he will have a defined role but it remains to be seen what exactly that is. Chubb played a season-low 60% of the snaps last week but it makes sense for Hunt to take snaps from Dontrell Hilliard and not Chubb. Chubb has 17 or more touches in every game, including 21 or more each of the last three. Buffalo is a surprising 30th in run defense DVOA, as they have been getting shredded on the ground. They have allowed nine all-around touchdowns to running backs and 4.57 yards per carry to backs as well. If you have Chubb you’re playing him and I have him around RB 9 for the week. Hunt is in wait and see mode for what kind of role he will have.

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends:

  • Odell Beckham Jr. (sit, low-WR2)
  • Jarvis Landry (sit, WR3)

Beckham Jr. and Landry are the only Browns pass-catchers worth owning. They have 67 and 66 targets respectively and that is more than double Nick Chubb, who is third on the team in targets. Beckham Jr. is likely to see Tre’Davious White in shadow coverage. White has only allowed one touchdown in his last 18 games and he has the fifth-lowest passer rating allowed in his coverage this year. Beckham Jr. is the WR26 in PPR leagues through nine weeks. Beckham is a shaky WR2 this week but his schedule opens up considerably after this week for the stretch run. Landry has 50+ yards in 6 of 8 games this year. He scored his first and only touchdown of the year last week. If we take out Landry’s touchdown last week, he would have six to 11 PPR points in 7 of the 8 games played this year despite being 15th at receiver in targets. At this point, we know what we are getting out of Landry.

I’m faced with a must-win against the top team this week (non-PPR, no flex, start 3WR) – would I be crazy to start Jacobs over Saquon and gamble on a higher ceiling? My other RB is Cook.

  2. Danmoshpit says:

I’m having a hard time deciding on my flex and QB this week.

    For the flex It’s between
Chris Carson, Darren Waller, Allen Robinson or John brown.

QB is either Stafford or Josh Allen

  3. Scott says:

You mentioned Curtis Samuel, Larry Fitz, and Brieda all as starters.

I’m in a 12 team PPR league with 2 flex spots. If you had to choose 2, who would you roll with?
