Arizona Cardinals

Quarterback:

  • Kyler Murray (Start/QB1)

Kyler Murray has been difficult to predict this year. The kid just put up 23 fantasy points against a San Francisco defense that has looked great for most of the season and only totaled seven fantasy points two weeks before against the Giants. Although he’s been tough to pin down, this matchup has all the makings of a shootout for Murray. The Buccaneers’ defense is fourth in fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks with 22.8 per game. Tampa is also allowing the second-most passing yards per game so far this year. The opportunity and upside should be there for Murray this week.

Running Backs:

  • David Johnson (Start if active/ RB2 with upside)
  • Kenyan Drake (Risky flex with DJ active)

Welp, Kenyan Drake made a ton of fantasy players kick themselves for benching him on Thursday night while he put up 28 fantasy points against a solid 49ers defense. Fantasy fans shouldn’t beat themselves up too much if they benched Drake; there were plenty of good reasons to sit him last week. The question is, will Drake be startable this week against one of the best run defenses in the NFL? The Cardinals are expecting a David Johnson return this week which should eat into Drake’s workload. The Buccaneers’ pass defense is much worse than their rush defense, so I’m predicting more work for DJ in this one if both backs are healthy and active.

Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends:

  • Larry Fitzgerald (Flex with WR2 upside)
  • Christian Kirk (Flex with WR2 upside)
  • KeeSean Johnson (Sit)

Larry Fitzgerald has had three straight fantasy performances of seven points or less. He also hasn’t found the end zone since Week 3. It doesn’t help much when this offense emphasizes short passes, limiting Fitzgerald’s upside. Still, the future Hall-of-Famer has a favorable matchup this week. The Buccaneers are second-to-last in passing yards allowed per game. Fitz has only been seeing about three or four targets per game the past couple weeks but he should be in line for more work this week.

Speaking of fewer targets, Christian Kirk matched his lowest target total of the season last week and his fantasy output was equally unimpressive. With the right amount of targets, Kirk is usually in WR2/Flex territory (in PPR leagues) and I think he should bounce back well in this matchup. KeeSean Johnson had his best fantasy game so far this season but his first touchdown certainly helped pad his fantasy stats and I don’t want to rely on him finding the end zone on one of his two or three catches.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Quarterback:

  • Jameis Winston (Start/QB1)

Like Kyler Murray, Jameis Winston also has an appealing matchup this week. The Cardinals are currently dead-last in the league, allowing 24.8 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. For an up-and-down quarterback who’s been pretty hard to pin down each week, the matchup doesn’t get much better than this for Jameis. Arizona is also bottom-four in passing yards allowed per game. Winston should throw the ball often and put up respectable fantasy stats this week.

Running Backs:

  • Ronald Jones (Start/ RB2)
  • Peyton Barber (Sit)
  • Dare Ogunbowale (Sit)

Ronald Jones was trusted with his second-highest carry total of the season last week against the Seahawks. Jones finished the game with 14 more attempts than his teammate Peyton Barber. The problem is, this team is forced to throw quite often when they are playing from behind, making it even more difficult to predict production from any of the Buccaneers’ backs. That being said, the Cardinals are in the bottom 10, allowing over 125 rushing yards per game. Head coach Bruce Arians also said that Jones has been the better back and earned more carries. I think Jones should offer reliable RB2 production if he’s given plenty of carries again. I’m benching Barber and Dare Ogunbowale this week. Neither is getting enough work to trust in your starting lineup.

Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends:

  • Mike Evans (Start/ WR1)
  • Chris Godwin (Start/ WR2)
  • Breshad Perriman (Sit)
  • Cameron Brate (Sit)
  • O.J. Howard (Sit)

Mike Evans has been the overall fantasy WR1 for the past two weeks. At this point, you would be crazy to bench Evans even if the matchup is terrible. It seems like he’s capable of going off any Sunday. This matchup should be a juicy one for Evans as the Cards are bottom-four in passing yards allowed per game. After three straight weeks of fantasy dominance, it seems Chris Godwin has entered a bit of a lull since the Bucs’ bye week. His last two weeks have seen Godwin in flex territory, but you can’t expect the guy to get more targets than Evans every week. Godwin will get him eventually and a matchup against the lowly Cardinals’ secondary should be just what the fantasy doctor ordered. Godwin should have the potential to return to WR2 territory this week.

Breshad Perriman is only getting a mention because he saw his largest target share of the season and also caught his first touchdown of the season last week. I don’t see that happening often. I wouldn’t trust Cameron Brate or O.J. Howard in this one either. Howard will be ready to go this week, but I’m not trusting him when he hasn’t had more than five targets in a game, hasn’t found the end zone yet, and has yet to break double-digit fantasy points this season.

I’m faced with a must-win against the top team this week (non-PPR, no flex, start 3WR) – would I be crazy to start Jacobs over Saquon and gamble on a higher ceiling? My other RB is Cook.

I’m having a hard time deciding on my flex and QB this week.

    For the flex It’s between
Chris Carson, Darren Waller, Allen Robinson or John brown.

QB is either Stafford or Josh Allen

  3. Scott says:

You mentioned Curtis Samuel, Larry Fitz, and Brieda all as starters.

I’m in a 12 team PPR league with 2 flex spots. If you had to choose 2, who would you roll with?
