Sleeper Spotlight: Jamison Crowder

New York Jets

Quarterback:

  • Sam Darnold (Start, QB2)

Coming off a much-needed bounce-back week against the Giants, Sam Darnold finds himself on the streaming radar with the likes of Aaron Rodgers & Russell Wilson on their bye. Darnold looked sharp, throwing for 230 yards and finding the end zone twice; first on the ground and second through the air. It was his first turnover-less game in weeks as well. The Giants are not very good, and the same goes for the Redskins, which is why I would suggest rolling with Darnold if needed.

Running Backs:

  • Le’Veon Bell (Start, RB2)
  • Bilal Powell (Sit)

Le’Veon Bell found the end zone for the first time since Week 6 against the Cowboys, which also happened to be the last time the Jets won before this Giants game. Coincidence? Maybe, but one thing is for certain: the volume remains. Bell carried the ball 18 times for only 34 yards but did have four receptions on four targets for another 34. Continue to treat Bell as a volume-driven RB2, and hope he can score again in Washington.

Bilal Powell remains a non-factor in fantasy.

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends:

  • Jamison Crowder (Start, WR3/FLEX)
  • Demaryius Thomas (Start, FLEX if you must)
  • Robby Anderson (Sit)
  • Ryan Griffin (Start, TE2)

Some more starts of the Jets offense this week than normal. Jamison Crowder caught Darnold’s one passing touchdown against the Giants and remains a favorite of his. Consider him a flex play with WR3 upside, and my ‘sleeper spotlight’ in his first game back in Washington. Demaryius Thomas has been involved more than expected as well since being traded to the team, and in a push comes to shove, you may be able to flex him this week. He did lead the team in targets and yards last week with nine & 84, respectively. Robby Anderson, I’m not too confident in him right now. He’s a sit again for me, as Darnold and him just haven’t been able to click this year.

News broke Monday that Chris Herndon suffered a fractured rib and will miss an “extended time”. He’s certainly a drop in redraft leagues, and it’s a shame that his second year was a lost one. That being said, fire up your Ryan Griffin stock, again. He’ll be a viable option for you at TE if you are still struggling at the position this far into the season.

Washington Redskins

Quarterback:

  • Dwayne Haskins (Sit)

Bill Callahan officially handed the keys to Dwayne Haskins on Monday, anointing him the starter for the rest of the season. This was not the plan for Washington in September, but entering Sunday’s game against the Jets at 1-8 derailed the process. Either way, I think Haskins is one QB the Jets defense can contain, despite their struggles. Haskins is not on the starting/streaming radar, and won’t be anytime soon.

Running Backs:

  • Adrian Peterson (Start, FLEX)
  • Wendell Smallwood (Sit)
  • Derrius Guice (Sit)
  • Chris Thompson (Sit)

Coming out of the bye, the Redskins backfield may become a bit more crowded. Expect Adrian Peterson to lead the way – and post FLEX numbers at best – but Derrius Guice is set to return off the IR. The talented second-year RB has not truly taken the field in his career due to injuries, and I wouldn’t recommend starting him should he be active. Another back who may return is Chris Thompson, who has been battling turf toe. I wouldn’t suggest starting him either. And you guessed it, I wouldn’t recommend starting Wendell Smallwood, who is the healthiest running back next to AP at the moment.

Wide Receivers/Tight End:

  • Terry McLaurin (Start, FLEX if you must)
  • Paul Richardson Jr. (Sit)
  • Trey Quinn (Sit)
  • Jeremy Sprinkle (Sit)
  • Vernon Davis (Sit)

There’s only one Washington receiver I would recommend starting, and that’s Terry McLaurin. Even with Haskins in at QB. Let’s face it, McLaurin does take a major hit without Case Keenum throwing him the ball, but I’m willing to bet on him having a semi-productive day against a Jets secondary that has rookies and unknowns starting in at cornerback. Paul Richardson Jr. and Trey Quinn, on the other hand, are not startable.

Tight ends Jeremy Sprinkle and Vernon Davis (if he exits the concussion protocol) are not viable streamers this week.

Ok I have in the past taken your advice I sat jarvis landry out on your reccomendation and guess what he ended up scoring 40 points . So excuse me if I pass on this advice.

It really sucks when you follow someone’s advice, and it doesn’t work out. We’ve all been there. So I can totally empathize with you being upset with how things worked out with Landry.

What I can’t understand is you coming back here to trash Aaron’s thoughtful analysis. Nobody bats 1.000 in fantasy football because there is inherent chaos baked into the game. Absolutely no one predicted Landry scoring 40 points last week because it would be insane to do so without the benefit of hindsight.
