Jacksonville Jaguars

Quarterback:

  • Nick Foles (Start/ Fringe QB1)

The Jaguars have already announced that Nick Foles will be the starting quarterback for Jacksonville as he returns from a collarbone injury that sidelined him from Week 1. It should be interesting to see what Foles can finally do and it could be difficult to predict his performance, given his minimal game-time experience in Jacksonville. The Colts are still top-ten against the pass so far this year and are only allowing 15.4 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Be that as it may, Foles could be a solid fill-in candidate for fantasy players with Aaron Rodgers and Russel Wilson on bye weeks. I’m not expecting a huge performance, but I think Foles is capable of fringe QB1 numbers this week.

Running Back:

  • Leonard Fournette (Start/ RB2)

Leonard Fournette is coming off a pretty flukey game before the bye that saw his lowest carry total of the season and lowest fantasy total for the past month. Fournette has been one of the most consistent fantasy backs this year. His only problem has been difficulty finding the end zone, something he’s only done once this year! If the touchdowns start coming with any consistency, Fournette should immediately become an elite option for the season. Leonard should have the opportunity to return to RB2 territory against the Colts’ middling rush defense.

Wide Receiver/ Tight End:

  • Keelan Cole (Sit)
  • DJ Chark Jr. (Flex)
  • Chris Conley (Sit)
  • Dede Westbrook (Flex)

Keelan Cole had his best fantasy performance of the year just before the Jags’ bye week, but I wouldn’t expect consistent production from him. He had six targets in that game and never saw more than two in any other game this season. Chris Conley is also pretty inconsistent and I wouldn’t trust him in my fantasy lineup just yet. Conley only has two impressive fantasy performances this year and both were helped with a touchdown catch.

DJ Chark Jr. has been passing the eye test so far this year and I just can’t bring myself to lowering his value much even with the QB change. If I’m not mistaken, Foles’ lone touchdown pass of the season was to Chark. DJ has been having a breakout season and is showing this league he’s got the talent to play at an elite level. Even though he had his worst fantasy performance of the year before the bye and is switching quarterbacks, I think Chark is still capable of flex production with WR2 upside if his target share is still there. Dede Westbrook is expected to return this week from a neck/shoulder injury that’s kept him out the past few weeks. Westbrook also holds some serious flex consideration if he’s healthy and active.

Indianapolis Colts

Quarterback:

  • Jacoby Brissett (Sit/ QB2)

All the news out of Indianapolis seems to suggest that Jacoby Brissett will be healthy and ready to play this week. Although he’s struggled the past few weeks, Brissett has the chance to bounce back against a Jaguars defense that’s allowing a middling 17.3 fantasy points to quarterbacks. Jacksonville is 13th in passing yards allowed per game, so the Colts may try to establish the run before going to the pass. Given the uncertainty due to injury, it’s going to be tough to trust Brissett this week. The Jaguars have forced six interceptions over their last three games.

Running Back:

  • Marlon Mack (Start, Flex with RB2 upside)
  • Nyheim Hines (Sit)

Marlon Mack can be so frustrating for fantasy owners sometimes. I mean, who puts up less than 10 fantasy points against the Dolphins with 19 carries!?! The problem is that the Colts hardly ever use Mack in passing or goalline situations. This can be aggravating, to say the least, especially considering that Mack isn’t a bad pass catcher and certainly has the strength for goalline work. Mack’s sheer volume on this offense makes him a weekly flex option at the very least, but it’s tough to trust him with consistent RB2 production. Jacksonville is ranked 22nd in rushing yards allowed per game so you likely need to put your faith in Mack once again. Nyheim Hines is barely viable in full PPR leagues and isn’t worth time. He hasn’t had more than five carries in a game this year. People love to rave about his pass-catching abilities, but he’s only surpassed four catches one time this season.

Wide Receiver/ Tight End:

  • Eric Ebron (Risky Start)
  • Jack Doyle (Risky Start)
  • Zach Pascal (Sit)
  • Chester Rogers (Sit)
  • T.Y. Hilton (Start if active/ WR2)
  • Devin Funchess (Sit if active)

I think most fantasy writers dread writing about Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle because it’s nearly impossible to predict their usage. Both are pretty reliant on touchdowns for fantasy relevance. The only real exception is when one of the tight ends gets a massive target share randomly (like Ebron’s 12 last week). In a game where the tight end position is a fantasy wasteland, there’s a reason both of these guys are consistently hovering around 50% owned in most leagues. They are simply too difficult to pin down from week-to-week.

It’s looking like T.Y. Hilton and Devin Funchess are day-to-day and you should monitor their practice situation over the week if you need them. If Hilton and Funchess are not ready to go this week, Zach Pascal and Chester Rogers will likely be the Colts’ two main pass-catching weapons. There’s no way I’m trusting Rogers in my starting lineup and Pascal seems very “boom or bust” so far this year.

Ok I have in the past taken your advice I sat jarvis landry out on your reccomendation and guess what he ended up scoring 40 points . So excuse me if I pass on this advice.

It really sucks when you follow someone’s advice, and it doesn’t work out. We’ve all been there. So I can totally empathize with you being upset with how things worked out with Landry.

What I can’t understand is you coming back here to trash Aaron’s thoughtful analysis. Nobody bats 1.000 in fantasy football because there is inherent chaos baked into the game. Absolutely no one predicted Landry scoring 40 points last week because it would be insane to do so without the benefit of hindsight.
