Sleeper Spotlight: Hunter Renfrow

Oakland Raiders

Quarterback:

  • Derek Carr (Start, QB2)

Derek Carr is entering Week 12 on a three-game win streak. Last week in what wound up being a closer game than anticipated, Carr ultimately carved up the Bengals defense, completing 25 of 29 passes for 292 yards and a touchdown. Overall the Raiders have looked quite impressive this year, though it’s worth noting that Carr hasn’t eclipsed 300 yards in any game. In what should have been a smash-spot against Cincinnati, he only managed one touchdown. Still, his 15 to 5 TD: INT ratio has been stellar, and this week against the Jets secondary is another great opportunity.

Running Backs:

  • Josh Jacobs (Start, high-end RB2)
  • Jalen Richard (Sit)

Coming off a 23 carry, 112-yard performance against the Bengals, OROY candidate Josh Jacobs is poised for another volume-driven game against the Jets. However, it’s wise to temper your expectations a bit. Jacobs is a must-start, no doubt, but New York has given up the 13th fewest fantasy points to running backs this season, and own the best run defense in the league; allowing three yards per carry and 79.1 yards per game. If Jacobs can continue to be involved through the passing game as he has in recent weeks and remain to see the high carry rate, he’s bound for another double-digit fantasy performance.

Jalen Richard remains off any starting radar.

Wide Receivers/Tight End:

  • Tyrell Williams (Start, FLEX)
  • Hunter Renfrow (Start, FLEX)
  • Zay Jones (Sit)
  • Darren Waller (Start, TE1)

Having scored in the first four games of the season before missing some time with a foot injury, Tyrell Williams hasn’t found the end zone since Week 8. His target share hasn’t been very plentiful, having only seen four last week. Granted, he did catch all four for 82 yards and remains to be Oakland’s lone deep threat. That being said, he’s down to flex territory at best. Joining him is Hunter Renfrow, who has seen a steady increase in involvement since the end of October (Week 8). He’s been a favorite of Carr out of the slot, catching five of six targets for 66 yards last week. In this final bye-week, Renfrow might fair well as a fill-in to the point where he’s my sleeper spotlight in this game.

Zay Jones is the odd receiver out, adding no fantasy value.

In my what feels like my weekly installment of ROI banter, Darren Waller fits the bill perfectly. You either drafted him late based off Hard Knocks hype or not at all and added him shortly after. Either way, he’s been a rock-solid tight end all year. He’s been Carr’s clear go-to option and continues to be a YAC force; 337 yards after the catch, which is good for the most among all TE’s. Consider Waller a TE1, despite facing a Jets defense that has given up the fifth-fewest points to tight ends all season.

New York Jets

Quarterback:

  • Sam Darnold (Start, QB2)

Ghosts? Never seen ‘em. That’s how Sam Darnold has been playing in recent weeks, albeit against the Giants & Redskins. Still, his stats in those two games cannot be overshadowed simply because of the opponents. In both games, he completed 19 of 30 attempts, posting 230 yards and two scores vs the Giants, and 293 yards with four touchdowns in Washington. The “Jets have a great ROS schedule” vibe appears to be in full swing, and Darnold enters Week 12 as a true streaming candidate. The Raiders have given up the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season.

Running Backs:

  • Le’Veon Bell (Start, RB2)
  • Bilal Powell (Sit)

Having found the end zone in back to back games, Le’Veon Bell is a locked-in RB2. Against the Redskins, he had 18 carries for 59 yards and a score, paired with two receptions on two targets for 33 yards. This may not translate to the sexiest real life statline, but you’ll take the 17.2 PPR points. The Raiders have allowed the 14th most fantasy points to running backs this season, and Bell should have opportunities to find the end zone for the third game in a row.

Bilal Powell spelled Bell quite a bit last week to the tune of seven carries for 42 yards, and one reception for 5. Still, he does not warrant a roster spot at this time.

Wide Receivers/Tight End:

  • Jamison Crowder (Start, WR3/FLEX)
  • Robby Anderson (Sit)
  • Demaryius Thomas (Sit)
  • Ryan Griffin (Start, TE2)

#RevengeGame winner: Jamison Crowder. In his first trip back to Washington, Crowder caught five of eight targets for 76 yards and an easy, uncovered score. He’s scored in three games straight and is a clear favorite of Darnold out of the slot. Look for the chemistry to remain, and consider Crowder a fair play; FLEX for certain if you have better options for your WR3 slot. On the other hand, chemistry has not been yet for Darnold and Robby Anderson. His lone reception against the Redskins on three total targets went for a touchdown, but his volume has just been too low to be comfortable starting him. This has been the sentiment all season, which is disappointing given the hype coming into the year. Demaryius Thomas remains involved, but he’s not worthy of a spot in your lineup.

Ryan Griffin posted career numbers last week, catching all five of his targets to the tune of 109 yards and a touchdown. He carved up the Redskins defense, and has been a viable streamer since Week 8; ignore his forgettable game against the Giants. Darnold sure has favored him as much as he has Crowder, and you should feel confident starting him this week. Oakland has given up the fifth-most fantasy points to the tight end this season.

The defense has allowed 74 combined points over the last three weeks, so there could be some rust building upon this hot rod of a defense ????????
Ravens did all the damage, Dak is not Lamar.
