Sleeper Spotlight: Allen Robinson

New York Giants

Quarterback:

  • Daniel Jones (Sit)

The last time we saw Daniel Jones play, he carved the Jets defense for 308 yards and four touchdowns. However, the Giants lost the game, and in the effort, he was sacked six times and had a fumble ripped from his light grasp to the tune of a Jamal Adams touchdown. He’s fresh off a Week 11 bye, but his lack of awareness when in the pocket is worrisome, especially heading into Chicago. The Bears have given up the fifth-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks this season, and truthfully I would not recommend Danny Dimes as a streaming option this week.

Running Back:

  • Saquon Barkley (Start, RB1 but temper expectations)
  • Wayne Gallman (Sit but monitor his usage)

Here’s a first. By default, I think you have to consider Saquon Barkley as an RB1, but it’s wise to be realistic. Firstly, even off the bye, it’s unclear how much closer he is to 100%. He has not been fully fit since returning from his high ankle sprain and has admitted to that take. Facing the Bears, who have given up the 11th most fantasy points to running backs, is a decent spot to come back to off a week of rest.

That being said, Wayne Gallman is not a start suggestion, but he is worth monitoring in these crunchtime weeks. If Barkley continues to look like he is struggling, it’s quite possible the Giants shut him down if they also keep losing games.

Wide Receivers/Tight End:

  • Golden Tate (Start, WR3)
  • Darius Slayton (Start, FLEX)
  • Sterling Shepard (Sit)
  • Rhett Ellison (Sit)

I’m a bit hesitant to ‘hype up’ Golden Tate and Darius Slayton, but here we are. The Bears have given up the second-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers all season. It’s certainly not a prime spot for the two, but Jones will have to throw it to someone. The volume has been there for them both, and so I’d start them and hope they can break through the Chicago secondary.

Sterling Shepard remains in the concussion protocol but practiced in full on Wednesday. He appears on pace to clear and suit up, but in no way is he a start recommendation right now.

Evan Engram did not practice on Wednesday, and it’s unlikely he’ll be back for this game. Backup Rhett Ellison suffered a concussion against the Jets, and if he can’t pass through the protocol in time, Scott Simonson and Kaden Smith are the next options. Who? I asked the same thing.

Chicago Bears

Quarterbacks:

  • Mitchell Trubisky (Sit)
  • Chase Daniels (Sit)

Mitchell Trubisky has had a rough go at it this season, having only thrown for 1,580 yards and nine touchdowns. He has four interceptions, and his play has translated to bad results not only in fantasy but in real life. The Bears are 4-6, and Trubisky is dealing with a hip injury suffered against the Rams last week that led to a bench; social media takes were quick to say he was benched for poor play. In either case, at the time of writing, he was a full participant at practice on Wednesday, yet I still would not recommend him as a starting option this week. Should he not suit up, I still wouldn’t want to stream Chase Daniels in his place.

Running Backs:

  • David Montgomery (Start, RB2)
  • Tarik Cohen (Start, FLEX if you must)

It’s been a down two weeks for David Montgomery, having only posted 6 total fantasy points against the Lions Week 10, and 5.5 against the Rams last week. Worth noting in both games though is that the volume has been there for him. He carried the ball 17 times for 60 yards against Detroit, and 14 against LA. You certainly would like more out of him in the passing game, and perhaps he’ll bode well with the Giants coming into town. New York has given up the 16th most fantasy points to running backs this season.

Tarik Cohen is a flex-only consideration for me, and that’s if you must. He’s posted double-digit fantasy points (PPR formats) in back to back weeks and could offer some production in desperate situations.

Wide Receivers/Tight End:

  • Allen Robinson (Start, WR2)
  • Taylor Gabriel (Start, FLEX if you must)
  • Anthony Miller (Sit)
  • Ben Braunecker & Adam Shaheen (Sit)

Allen Robinson found himself bottled up by Jalen Ramsey in shadow coverage last week, only catching four of six targets for a measly 16 yards. Entering Week 12 against the Giants, it’s a much better matchup; New York has given up the second-most fantasy points to wide receivers this season. I’m looking for Robinson to bounce-back mightily, and consider him my sleeper spotlight on the week.

Taylor Gabriel is another interesting name, and similar to Cohen, I’d consider him a flex-if-you-must option. He saw a whopping 14 targets against the Rams, hauling in seven catches for 57 yards. However, I wouldn’t bet on that volume in back to back weeks. Anthony Miller saw 11 of his last week, catching six for 54 yards, yet he remains out of your lineups and off your teams entirely.

With Trey Burton on IR, the next men up at TE for Chicago are Ben Braunecker & Adam Shaheen. Both should not be started or rostered.

  1. Meni says:

The defense has allowed 74 combined points over the last three weeks, so there could be some rust building upon this hot rod of a defense ????????
Ravens did all the damage, Dak is not Lamar.
