New York Jets

Quarterback:

  • Sam Darnold (Start, QB1)

If you’re reading this it’s probably too late (to add him). Sam Darnold is living up to the team’s second half, great-schedule-on-paper matchups hype. He showed it against the Giants, Redskins, and last week the Raiders. The beatdown of Oakland was unexpected, but if you have been riding the Darnold wave recently, you’ve benefited. He finished 20-29, 315 yards and two touchdowns. In this three-game span, he has nine total touchdowns and only one interception. Playing much smarter and with confidence, Week 13 Darnold gets the winless Bengals, and it’s another smash-spot.

Running Backs:

  • Le’Veon Bell (Start, RB2)
  • Bilal Powell (Sit)

Le’Veon Bell continues to be a volume-driven option in this Jets offense. His carry count may be low, but he’s still involved in the pass game. In last week’s win against Oakland, he had 12 carries for 49 yards, and caught all five of his targets for 59 yards; good for 15.8 points in full-PPR formats. The downfall to Bell’s 2019 has been his lack of touchdown scoring, but he’ll still remain a consistent RB2 against the Bengals. Cincinnati have given up the sixth-most fantasy points to running backs this season.

Bilal Powell remains off the fantasy radar.

Wide Receivers/Tight End:

  • Robby Anderson (Start, boom or bust WR3)
  • Jamison Crowder (Start, WR3 w/ WR2 upside)
  • Demaryius Thomas (Sit)
  • Ryan Griffin (TE1)

Is Robby Anderson, the “sun God” heating up? He has scored in back to back games, and it is worth noting they were both red zone receptions. That’s not typical of the burner, but Darnold has been able to find Anderson in the back of the end zone in what (if memory serves me correct) was the same play call twice. Still, his target share isn’t anything to write home about, and so you’ll have to treat him as a boom or bust WR3.

Jamison Crowder had a down game against the Raiders, only catching two of four receptions for 18 yards. Weeks 9-11 he was posting WR2 numbers, and it’s quite possible he comes back to that form against the Bengals, making him my sleeper spotlight. Demaryius Thomas has lost any starting appeal he may have had in the past and remains a touchdown-dependent receiver.

Fresh off of a contract extension Saturday night, Ryan Griffin found the end zone again, albeit one yard out from the end zone; hey, still counts! His score saved his fantasy day, as overall he caught all three of his targets for just 13 yards. You can remain to confidently fire him up as a TE1 the rest of the way.

Cincinnati Bengals

Quarterback:

  • Andy Dalton (Sit)

The Red Rifle, he’s back. It was announced Monday afternoon that Andy Dalton would be back in at QB for the Bengals for Week 13. In his absence due to a benching Week 10, Ryan Finley filled in, and wasn’t any better. Finley went winless in three starts, throwing for only two touchdowns and never cracked the 200-yard mark through the air. It’s interesting that the Bengals are circling back to Dalton, but here we are. Let’s just say he still remains off the streaming radar.

Running Backs:

  • Joe Mixon (Start, RB2)
  • Giovani Bernard (Sit)

Joe Mixon has turned it up as of late, having run for 75 or more yards in the last three games. Week 12 against the Steelers was quieter – 18 carries for 79 yards – as he wasn’t targeted in the passing game. His fantasy stat line was just 7.9 points. With Dalton back, he should see a fair share of targets, but on the ground is where he may run into some trouble. The Jets run defense is atop the league’s best. They’re a unit that just held offensive rookie of the year candidate Josh Jacobs to 34 yards on 10 carries. Expect the volume for Mixon, but surely don’t bank on RB1 results.

Like Powell, Giovani Bernard has no fantasy appeal.

Wide Receivers/Tight End:

  • Tyler Boyd (Start, WR3)
  • Auden Tate (Sit)
  • Alex Erickson (Sit)
  • Tyler Eifert (Sit)

The Cincy WR trio should benefit from Dalton returning, but the only one truly worth starting still is Tyler Boyd. Coming off a nine target, five-catch for 101 yards and a touchdown performance last week, you’d expect Boyd to remain Dalton’s go-to option. Auden Tate I’d consider a flex-if-you-must option, but I ultimately prefer you sit him. Alex Erickson is a sit, as well as tight end Tyler Eifert.

Hey Aaron! Thanks for putting these out every week. I’m struggling to figure out which 2/3 to start out of Lockett, Carson, and Hopkins this week. Could also throw Waller or Hilton into the mix, but I don’t really think they’re in the same realm of value as the three aforementioned guys.

I’m leaning Lockett/Hopkins, even though Hopkins could toss up a donut as Amari did, Carson also doesn’t have an easy matchup and it seems like the snap count share is trending in Penny’s direction. Any thoughts?

Thanks Aaron – I look forward to your column every week. Two questions, Gordon v Ingram, and can you pick two from these three: Allen, Beckham, Robinson. thanks again!
