Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Quarterback

  • Jameis Winston (Start/ QB1)

Although he threw an interception on one of his first passes of the day, Jameis Winston still finished with his third-best fantasy performance of the year. If you’re starting Winston you simply have to take the good with the bad. Jameis is on pace for the most touchdown throws and interceptions this year. This will be a pass-first team, even when the Bucs are ahead. Winston will remain a high-upside play but it’s worth noting that the Jaguars are top-10 in passing yards allowed per game.

Running Backs

  • Ronald Jones (Start/ RB2)
  • Peyton Barber (Sit)

Ronald Jones and Peyton Barber were splitting carries again last week but it still seems like Jones is the back to own on this team. That’s not saying much though. Like I mentioned before, this is a pass-first offense and it’s still tough to immediately trust Jones from week-to-week. That being said, the matchup is pretty favorable for Buccaneers’ backs if they receive enough carries. The Jaguars are bottom-four in rushing yards allowed per game. Jones has put up RB2 numbers or better in three of the past five weeks. I believe he can reach that territory again this week. Barber will be more difficult to trust.

Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends

  • Mike Evans (Start/ WR1)
  • Chris Godwin (Start/ WR1)
  • O.J. Howard (Sit)
  • Cameron Brate (Sit)

Given the favorable matchup, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are both easy WR1 starts this week. It seems that one or the other will get the bulk of targets any given week but your guess is as good as mine as to which receiver will be the go-to guy each week. Both players are immediate starts anyway.

With just three targets between the tight ends last week, it’s becoming pretty much impossible to start either O.J. Howard or Cameron Brate in normal leagues. I say sit ‘em both and look elsewhere.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Quarterback

  • Nick Foles (Start/ QB1)

Since returning from injury a few weeks ago, Nick Foles has been impressive but hasn’t quite reached greatness. He’s finished with QB1 performances each week and the Buccaneers are allowing 22.2 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, second only to the Cardinals. Tampa Bay is also second-worst in passing yards allowed per game. Foles should be an easy plug-and-play QB1 this week.

Running Backs

  • Leonard Fournette (Start/ RB2 with upside)

Leonard Fournette exploded for his best fantasy performance of the season last week against the Titans. Unfortunately, the matchup against the Buccaneers this week isn’t so inviting. The Bucs are allowing only 78.7 rushing yards per game which is second in the league. On the other hand, Tampa Bay is exploitable through the air and Fournette just had his highest catch total of the season last week. If Jacksonville can get Fournette involved in the passing game, I can see an RB2 performance with upside if he can find the end zone again.

Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends

  • DJ Chark Jr. (Start/ WR1)
  • Dede Westbrook (Start/ WR2)
  • Chris Conley (Sit)

I’m expecting a solid bounce-back performance from DJ Chark Jr. this week. He only had six targets last week but received 15 the week prior. Hopefully, that isn’t a sign that Foles is spreading the ball around too much. Either way, a matchup against a terrible Buccaneers’ secondary should be just what the doctor ordered. If Chark can’t get it done against this team it may be time to start worrying.

It seems like Dede Westbrook may be receiving more consistent looks with Foles under center and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him with another healthy target share this week. If he continues to see around nine or ten passes he should be a lock for WR2 production. Speaking of targets, Chris Conley had more targets last week than any other week this season. He still couldn’t reach double-digit fantasy points though. Conley will remain pretty “boom or bust” this year and I’m having trouble trusting him this week even with the positive matchup.

Hey Aaron! Thanks for putting these out every week. I’m struggling to figure out which 2/3 to start out of Lockett, Carson, and Hopkins this week. Could also throw Waller or Hilton into the mix, but I don’t really think they’re in the same realm of value as the three aforementioned guys.

I’m leaning Lockett/Hopkins, even though Hopkins could toss up a donut as Amari did, Carson also doesn’t have an easy matchup and it seems like the snap count share is trending in Penny’s direction. Any thoughts?

Thanks Aaron – I look forward to your column every week. Two questions, Gordon v Ingram, and can you pick two from these three: Allen, Beckham, Robinson. thanks again!
