Sleeper Spotlight:

Kansas City Chiefs

Quarterbacks:

  • Patrick Mahomes (Start, QB1)

The snow was no match for Patrick Mahomes last week against the Broncos. He did have one interception late in the game, but he’s 27-34, 340 yards and two touchdown day surely outshined the blemish. Mahomes may not be putting up MVP numbers as he did in 2018, but he’s a top QB you’d want on your squad entering Championship weekend.

Running Backs:

  • LeSean McCoy (Sit)
  • Darwin Thompson (Sit)
  • Spencer Ware (Sit)

Note to self for 2020 draft night: avoid the Kansas City backfield. I was a victim of having drafted Damien Williams in the second round, and it certainly did not pay off as planned. I had my share of LeSean McCoy stock as well, but overall, the same deal. In a must-win week for fantasy purposes, I can’t instill trust in any Chiefs RB. That goes for Darwin Thompson and Spencer Ware as well.

Wide Receivers/Tight End:

  • Tyreek Hill (Start, WR1)
  • Sammy Watkins (Sit)
  • Mecole Hardman (Sit)
  • Demarcus Robinson (Sit)
  • Travis Kelce (Start, TE1)

As potent as this offense is, there are only two fantasy starts I find from this core; and they’re the obvious duo. Tyreek Hill will remain a WR1, and Travis Kelce is a set and forget TE1. Both will forever have chances for big games as long as Mahomes is under center. Sammy Watkin, Mecole Hardman, and Demarcus Robinson are not recommended plays.

Chicago Bears

Quarterback:

  • Mitchell Trubisky (Start, QB2)

The Bears won’t be in the playoffs this season, but starters will still play these next two games. That being said, I would consider starting Mitchell Trubisky if you’re (somehow) in a QB bind this week. He had 53 pass attempts last week against the Packers, and despite Week 16 being ‘meaningless’, he’ll look to prove any doubters wrong heading into the offseason. I wouldn’t bank on 50+ attempts again, but he could be in line for a decent day.

Running Backs:

  • David Montgomery (Sit)
  • Tarik Cohen (Start, FLEX if you must)

Rookie David Montgomery has been a fantasy letdown this season despite preseason hype. His inability to find the end zone – last scoring on the ground Week 9 – hurts any starting potential for him down the stretch. His counterpart, Tarik Cohen, might be beneficial if you’re in a bind at FLEX given his pass-catching capability; his target share is on the up in recent weeks, and he’s still receiving some carries.

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends:

  • Allen Robinson II (Start, WR2)
  • Anthony Miller (Start, WR3/FLEX)
  • J.P. Holtz (Sit)
  • Bradley Sowell (Sit)
  • Jesper Horsted (Sit)

Both Allen Robinson II and Anthony Miller are startable this week, even though the Chiefs defense has given up the second-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers this season. The targets are plentiful for either player and should remain high if Trubisky throws the way he has in recent games; at least 30+ attempts since Week 11.

Three’s a crowd, and all three tight ends are firmly in your league’s waiver wire. J.P. Holtz, Bradley Sowell, and Jesper Horsted have no business being owned.

Richard Sherman has been a full participant in practice both Wednesday and Thursday this week and is expected to play this weekend by SF’s beat writers. Why do you believe he is unlikely to play?

Hi Aaron, I too graduated from Kennesaw College (1981) and grew up in Smyrna. I am very active in fantasy with over 60 teams. I own a sports memorabilia business that publishes a small circulation magazine (catalog). I love your weekly analysis and I look to you for start/sit decisions, and I am winning. Thanks for the help. I am also working on a book on fantasy sports. I would love to chat. You are welcome to email me to start a discussion. Also I am a major Atlanta sports fan since 1966, and I did attend the worst game in Braves history this past September, the final game.
