Philadelphia Eagles

Quarterback:

  • Carson Wentz (Start, QB2)

It would be tough to bench a quarterback who’s averaging 21.4 points per game, but don’t expect a crazy performance from Carson Wentz this week. He’s going up against a top-five pass defense with banged-up receivers. To make matters worse, Wentz will be playing on the road after a short week to prepare. I own Wentz in some leagues and will likely be starting him but I’m tempering expectations this week. He’s only benchable if you have a better option available.

Running Backs:

  • Miles Sanders ( FLEX with RB2 upside)
  • Jordan Howard (Sit)
  • Darren Sproles (Sit)

This backfield is quickly becoming a fantasy nightmare. I was holding both Miles Sanders and Jordan Howard just to see how this backfield would shake out but it’s starting to look like they are burning a hole in my bench because neither is startable. I was expecting Sanders’ touches to trend upward as the season continued but it seems the opposite is taking place. He saw 49% of snaps in Week 1, 43% in Week 2, and 34% in Week 3. On top of that, Jordan Howard vultured a touchdown from Sanders last week. I’m staying far away from this backfield until one of these guys gets a bigger role. That being said, the Packers haven’t been great against the run so far and one of them could break off a big gain. Darren Sproles is just getting used here and there. He isn’t even worth a bench spot right now.

Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends:

  • Zach Ertz (Start, TE2)
  • Mack Hollins (Sit, FLEX)
  • Nelson Agholor (Start, WR1)
  • Dallas Goedert (Sit)
  • Alshon Jeffery (Start if healthy, WR2)
  • DeSean Jackson (Start if healthy, WR2)

Zach Ertz has a bit of a tough matchup on Thursday when he goes up against a Packers defense that has been top five against tight ends so far this year. That being said, I think Ertz should still have a respectable floor (around 10 points) and plenty of targets if the Eagles are still a little short on receiving talent this week. Ertz did great when the Eagles lacked targets last year, so I’m not too concerned about this week. The Eagles are hopeful that Alshon Jeffery can return in time for the Thursday night matchup. If he’s healthy and starting, I think he’s got a shot at respectable WR2 production. I wouldn’t expect much more than that against a good Packers secondary though. I don’t expect DeSean Jackson to be ready to go this week, but if he is, he’s always capable of taking the top off of the defense.

Mack Hollins has done okay (averaging 10.1 points) these past two weeks, but he was mainly on the field so much because the rest of the Eagles’ receivers are banged-up. I’m not expecting any sort of breakout performance from him anytime soon but he could have another respectable floor if the Eagles are shorthanded. Nelson Agholor should be a viable start this week if DeSean Jackson is still out, even against an impressive Packers secondary. With two WR1 performances in a row, you should have faith in Agholor if you know he’s getting the targets. Dallas Goedert has been banged up and was only on the field for nine snaps last week. Don’t even bother with him.

Green Bay Packers

Quarterback:

  • Aaron Rodgers (Start, QB1)

After a tough defensive stretch to begin the season, I think Aaron Rodgers is finally due for a breakout QB1 performance with this new offense. The Eagles are bottom-four against the pass so far this year and even have a few injuries on that side of the ball. Rodgers should carve them up. He’s had a few underwhelming weeks to start the season but I’m starting him up with confidence against the Eagles.

Running Backs:

  • Aaron Jones (Start, RB2)
  • Jamaal Williams (Sit)

Man, after the Vikings game, I thought Aaron Jones was the go-to guy in this offense. Then, head coach Matt LaFleur said he wanted to get Jamaal Williams more involved in this offense. Unfortunately for all fantasy players out there, LaFleur was true to his words. Williams ended up with two more carries than Jones but the latter was still trusted with goal-line work. Jones is still the back to own on this team, but the presence of Williams eating away at his carries does not bode well for your fantasy team. I wouldn’t expect much more than RB2 production from Jones this week, especially going up against an Eagles defense that is currently ranked second in rushing yards allowed. I wouldn’t overthink the Williams situation. From Week 2 to Week 3 he had three more carries and two fewer fantasy points.

Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends:

  • Davante Adams (Start, WR1)
  • Marquez Valdes-Scantling (Start, WR2)
  • Jimmy Graham (Sit)
  • Marcedes Lewis (Sit)
  • Geronimo Allison (Sit)

This should be the week Davante Adams finally gets his first touchdown of the year and proves he’s still an elite NFL wide receiver. Rodgers said the other day that “four targets isn’t enough” for Adams. I expect Rodgers to give Adams plenty of targets especially against a poor Eagles secondary. Start him up with confidence. I was listing Marquez Valdes-Scantling as a sleeper for weeks and it finally happened against the Broncos. Expect more of that against the Eagles’ secondary. MVS should have consistent big-play upside this year if he and Rodgers get on the same page. I’ve listed him as WR2 but he could just as easily have a big play that puts him into WR1 territory.

By now, you likely know that I take a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately stance on tight ends. Jimmy Graham’s goose eggs the last two weeks are all I need to know. That being said, Rodgers did recently say he needs to get the ball to Jimmy more often. Unfortunately, Rodgers’ word isn’t enough for me to confidently start Graham, especially with Marcedes Lewis in the mix. My take on Geronimo Allison is no different from what it was last week. I like him a lot, but the way he’s being used this year just isn’t going to be fantasy relevant. He’s mostly targeted on or near the flats where the Packers expect him to make plays with his footwork after the catch.

Andrews or demarcus Robinson in a full point PPR? if there’s not much of a difference, I’m probably going to go Robinson anyways because I’m a Browns fan and I hate having to root for a guy on the other team.
