Sleeper Spotlight: Derek Carr

Oakland Raiders

Quarterback:

  • Derek Carr (Start, QB2)

Derek Carr had a strong start to the season Week 1, and it hasn’t been all that great since. Stats will show one thing from Week 3 against the Vikings – 27/34 for 242 yards and two touchdowns – yet he compiled these when the game was already out of reach. He played it safe, not looking much down the field at all. With Malik Hooker out a few weeks with a knee injury, this could be a great spot for Carr to get back on track.

Running Backs:

  • Josh Jacobs (Start, RB2)
  • DeAndre Washington (Sit)
  • Jalen Richard (Sit)

A week removed from an illness and groin issue, Josh Jacobs is poised for more work on the ground and in the passing game. He only played 25 snaps last week against Minnesota, but this is a spot for him to get back on track as well. John Gruden was vocal on Monday with the media, citing to the fact that he wants to get Jacobs the ball the most, especially in the pass-game. I am banking on the potential to be there for him to improve on his 10 carry, 44 yard Week three performance.

DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard may have involvement of their own, but at this time they have no standalone value in your lineup.

Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends:

  • Tyrell Williams (Start, WR3/FLEX)
  • Darren Waller (Start, TE1)

The Oakland offense appears to have two constants in Tyrell Williams and Darren Waller; the latter being the tight end you wish you had on your roster. Williams has been a solid WR3, hauling in 14 receptions for 180 yards and three touchdowns in as many games. He will continue to be a mainstay in that role, or even as a flex option, as the Raiders don’t have any notable receivers aside him to this point. J.J. Nelson and even Hunter Renfrow are not yet worthy of a roster spot.

Waller though, he’s a lock and load TE1 for the foreseeable future. He led the Raiders in targets last week with a whopping 14 and caught 13 of those for 134 yards; an average of 10.3 yards per catch. You are thrilled with what he’s provided you out of the bleak tight end options so far, especially if you drafted him late or added him off waivers.

Indianapolis Colts

Quarterback:

  • Jacoby Brissett (Start, QB2)

Luck who? Might be too soon for that one, but Jacoby Brissett has looked more than capable of being the signal-caller for this Colts team. He is entering Week 4 coming off a career game, throwing for three touchdowns on 146 yards through the air; he also rushed for 25 yards on seven carries. He has multiple scores in all three games this season and could bode for another strong game against the gaunt Oakland defense.

Running Backs:

  • Marlon Mack (Start, RB2)
  • Nyheim Hines (Sit)
  • Jordan Wilkins (Sit)

Marlon Mack entered the game clear of his calf injury and proved he was ready to roll. He carried the ball 20 times for a score, though only picking up 51 yards in the process. I’m looking for Mack to find an uptick in yards gained this week. Similar to the Raiders and the backs behind Jacobs, Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins will spell Mack a bit as they did last week, though I don’t believe they will have enough of a role to find themselves in your lineup.

Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends:

  • T.Y. Hilton (Start, WR2 – if he plays)
  • Eric Ebron (Start, TE2)

This is very similar to how the Raiders line up in the sense that at the moment, there aren’t many fantasy-worthy Colts receivers to consider starting. T.Y. Hilton re-aggravated his quad in last week’s win and maybe in jeopardy to play, yet I wouldn’t run to add and start a Chester Rogers or Parris Campbell. If anything I can see Eric Ebron or Jack Doyle involved more as the two tight end options for Brissett.

Andrews or demarcus Robinson in a full point PPR? if there’s not much of a difference, I’m probably going to go Robinson anyways because I’m a Browns fan and I hate having to root for a guy on the other team.
