Start ‘Em and Sit ‘Em – Week 4

Three players to start and sit in your Week 4 matchups!

With Week 3 in the rearview, Tyler Shough and Josh Downs (in his own right) came through as I anticipated; the same goes for Deebo Samuel Sr., with a hilarious box score of 0 catches for 80 yards and a touchdown via a lateral from Mike Evans. I missed the mark with suggesting to sit Terry McLaurin and Jeremiyah Love, but did hit on Chris Godwin Jr.

Time to dive into Week 4!

A reminder that I judge my “start” or “sit” against a full-PPR format.

Start ‘Em

Michael Wilson, WR – Arizona Cardinals

Week 4 Matchup: @ New York Giants

Care for a target, Michael Wilson? Here’s 17 of them. It was funny to see just 89 yards recorded, but Wilson caught 11 of his 17 targets with a touchdown in the loss to the 49ers. This target share dialed it back to his 2025 breakout that seemingly got him paid this summer, and it’s clear both he and Trey McBride are the preferred targets of Jacoby Brissett. With the weather expected to be much better at MetLife Stadium this weekend compared to last Sunday’s rain slop, Wilson could be poised for another busy day against a Giants defense allowing the 12th most fantasy points to opposing WRs this fantasy season.

Juwan Johnson, TE – New Orleans Saints

Week 4 Matchup: vs. Atlanta Falcons (MNF)

Starting Juwan Johnson feels a bit obvious at this point, but he is still only 78% rostered in Yahoo! leagues. Last week, Johnson caught all eight of his targets for 53 yards and two touchdowns – and a lost fumble – in the loss to Vegas. On the year, he’s caught 15 of 19 targets for 173 yards and three total touchdowns, and has a chance to build off his productive start to the season against a Falcons defense allowing the seventh most fantasy points to tight ends on the year.

FantasyData has Johnson projected to finish as the TE8 this week.

Tetairoa McMillan, WR – Carolina Panthers

Week 4 Matchup: vs. Detroit Lions (SNF)

This is more a ‘Lions secondary’ callout than it is for Tetairoa McMillan himself, but he’s primed for a productive game against Detroit this week. Considering Jalen Coker has a banged-up quad (whether he plays or not is still left to be seen), Tet should see a bump in targets to cover Coker’s current share of the lot. McMillan owned a 94.8% snap share in Week 3, and gets to face a Lions defense allowing the fourth most fantasy points to WRs this season. Just last week, they allowed Garrett Wilson and Kenyon Sadiq to combine for 17 receptions (on 21 targets) for 212 yards and two touchdowns.

Sit ‘Em

Tre Tucker, WR – Las Vegas Raiders

Week 4  Matchup: vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Despite being the de facto WR1 in Vegas, Tre Tucker is going to concede targets week over week now that Brock Bowers is back on the field. Tucker was the beneficiary of a lack of competition in the WR room, with Jalen Nailor and Jack Bech (fractured forearm suffered in New Orleans) being non-factors; however, he owned just a 57.1% snap count in the Week 3 win over the Saints. Comparatively, Bowers, in his season debut, owned a 78.6% snap count share.

Kansas City has been stout against opposing WR’s this season, allowing the second-fewest fantasy points to the position through three games.

Ladd McConkey, WR – Los Angeles Chargers

Week 4  Matchup: @ Seattle Seahawks

The Chargers have been one of the more surprising disappointments this season, and it won’t get any easier this week. As an 0-3 side with a date in Seattle, Ladd McConkey – who would normally be an auto-start – isn’t a locked-in option through three weeks. He’s tallied a total of just 15 targets in that span, having caught 11 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown. He ranks as the WR26 on the season, and ironically FantasyData has him projected to finish as the WR26 on the week. Seattle’s defense has allowed the fourth-fewest fantasy points per game to receivers, an average of 23.8.

If you find yourself with an option on your bench that has a better matchup, you would not be shamed for benching McConkey in this one.

Brian Thomas Jr., WR – Jacksonville Jaguars

Week 4 Matchup: at Cincinnati Bengals

Similar to the above with Ladd, Brian Thomas Jr. has been a letdown this season. He’s caught seven of 13 targets for 88 yards and no touchdowns. He’s not on the field because of 12-personnel, owns a 42.1% snap share through three games, and is firmly behind the likes of Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers. You’re quicker to cut bait on him at this point than to find a way to keep him in your lineup.
