Tua Tagovailoa to Tyreek Hill

The quarterback dual of the week played out in one of the best games of Week 1, and a fourth-quarter comeback from Dolphins starter Tua Tagovailoa made the rest of the league sit up and take notice. This perfectly thrown deep ball on the run to Tyreek Hill set up the match-winning score. What a phenomenal throw.

Justin Herbert to Keenan Allen

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert went toe-to-toe with Tua the entire afternoon and was arguably working behind a lesser offensive line, seeing pressure for the majority of his throws. Still, Herbert’s vision and accuracy were on display all afternoon. This perfectly flighted ball from near his own goal line to hit Keenan Allen in stride was a marvel.

Patrick Mahomes to Blake Bell

The King of the Sling Pass returned on a disappointing night for the Chiefs as they went down to the Lions to kick off the 2023 season. However, when they needed their quarterback to deliver something special, Patrick Mahomes duly answered with a signature side-arm sling throw to hit tight end Blake Bell in the end zone.

Jordan Love to Romeo Doubs

One of the standout quarterback performances in Week 1 was new Packers starting quarterback Jordan Love, who made the most of his chemistry with second-year wideout Romeo Doubs to the tune of two touchdowns. This lovely throw up and to the back side of the end zone is expertly located for his receiver to go up and get it over the corner in coverage. Perfectly executed by Love to show his receivers he trusts them.

Matthew Stafford to Puka Nacua

The veteran Super Bowl champion did his best “I’m not dead yet” impression as Matthew Stafford sprayed the football all over the field in the Rams’ upset win in Seattle. Rookie Puka Nacua did everything the veteran asked and was rewarded with double-digit targets. The dropback, vision, pocket presence, location, and execution on this play from Stafford are second to none.

Trevor Lawrence to Evan Engram

Former Clemson star Trevor Lawrence‘s ascendency continues after a stellar showing to pick up a big opening-day win for the Jaguars in Indianapolis. The blossoming chemistry with his tight end Evan Engram continued and this dart down the sideline was one of the most impressive executions of the weekend – the pace on the ball and accuracy to the target is phenomenal. Lawrence went 3-3 for 68 yards and 1 TD when throwing beyond 20+ yards.

Brock Purdy to Brandon Aiyuk

Mr. Irrelevant is proving just how little NFL scouts and GMs actually know about how to succeed at the quarterback position in the NFL. The final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft was his efficient, impressive self in the 49ers rout of the Steelers. Brock Purdy is impressive because of his consistency of process and his accuracy, something that always hindered Jimmy G in San Francisco, The location of the pass to Brandon Aiyuk here on his first read is excellent.

Sam Howell to Cole Turner

Nice to include one of the new younger starting quarterbacks who impressed over the weekend and led his team to a win – Sam Howell showed poise, grit, and leadership in the Commanders’ win over the Cardinals. This pocket work is impressive and he manages to maintain his vision and nail the throw right in front of his receiver, Cole Turner to run onto. He’s one to watch this season.
