Waiver Wire: Week 4 Priority Adds Under 50% Owned

Matt Dean is here to let you know who the priority adds are heading into Week 4 waivers.

Happy Tuesday Fantasy Footballers and welcome to Week 4. I am Matt Dean (@MattDeanQBList) and I am here to help you recover from Week 3 with your priority adds from the waiver wire this week. Along with this article, co-writer Aaron Rader and I will be putting out a weekly Waiver Wire Podcast on Monday nights to help get you through the workday. You can find that here.

Another week down and we are all in one of two places – comfortably in the race for the playoffs or scrambling for help at 0-3 or 1-2. If you find yourself at a loss at the QB position, in a panic at under performing wide receivers and running backs, or wishing you’d left George Kittle there in the third and drafted Darren Waller or Mark Andrews ten rounds later, I am here for you. Don’t panic. Take a deep breath – it will be okay. The sample size is still small and your studs have a chance to turn it around against all odds, just ask Joe Mixon this week.

Before we get into the adds, let’s look and see how I did last week with my picks:

Wins: Josh Allen, Mecole Hardman, Demarcus Robinson, Nelson Agholor

Losses: Raheem Mostert, Carlos Hyde, Devin Smith

Overall Record: 9-6

This will continue to be updated every week, and I count wins as players that were flex worthy during the week suggested.

With all that said, let’s hop right into the priority adds for Week 4.

The ownership percentage is based on Yahoo Fantasy Leagues.

Priority Adds

QB – Daniel Jones, New York Giants (18% Owned)

If you are scrambling at the QB position, look no further than Daniel Jones, aka Danny Dimes. Many doubters, including Baker Mayfield ironically, thought that this was a terrible pick by the Giants. While one game isn’t enough to make any kind of career assumption, Daniel Jones scored 38 fantasy points in 6 points per QB touchdown leagues. He now has the same number of 30 point games as Eli Manning has in his entire career! In just an insane combination of passing and rushing prowess, Danny Dimes won over the fan’s hearts in Week 2. Showing plus ability to use his legs, Jones gets the lowly Redskins next week.

FAAB Budget – 8%

RB – Wayne Gallman, New York Giants (7% Owned)

I mainly want to put this here because I know this is who everyone is rushing out to get. I just want to say “Not so fast my friend!” I understand that Saquon Barkley is out for the foreseeable future, but Wayne Gallman is not the answer. If you are desperate, I get it, but there are better and will be better options as this is looking like an air attack team with Daniel Jones under center. Please do not go out and blow your FAAB on Wayne Gallman, I can guarantee you that you will regret it. Put in a low bid for a speculative add and be happy someone else pays 30% for him.

FAAB Budget – 10%

RB – Ronald Jones, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (25% Owned)

It seems like this is a flavor of the week backfield for Tampa Bay. Week One it was Ronald Jones. Week Two it was Peyton Barber. Now in Week Three it was Jones again. But, look…Jones is averaging over 5 YPC and it is only a matter of time before he is the lead back in Tampa. He ramped back up to 14 carries this week, a season high by one, and is far and away the more talented rusher. In comparison, Barber got 13 carries, but was far less productive. This is my top replacement suggestion for you if you are scrambling at RB or Flex positions.

FAAB Budget – 18%

WR- Phillip Dorsett, New England Patriots (32% Owned)

Patriots WR Phillip Dorsett has two fantastic games this week. Those two games were both without the Antonio Brown drama show in town. After catching two touchdowns in Week one, Dorsett went out and produced a 6/53/1 line on Sunday. It is obvious that the Patriots have morphed into a three-wide set team without Rob Gronkowski in the middle of the field, and Dorsett has been the beneficiary so far from that. Tom Brady trusts him and he is quickly coming into the flex conversation with 7 targets this week. While there are other big names out there under 50% owned, Dorsett is near the top of the list this week.

FAAB Budget: 17%

WR – Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers (4% Owned)

A moment of silence for Donte Moncrief…okay. Well that didn’t last long. Moncrief literally let the chance at being the WR2 for the Steelers go through his hands and off his face. A healthy scratch this week, Moncrief looks like an afterthought for the Steelers. Enter the rookie, Diontae Johnson. Dubbed the new starting WR opposite JuJu Smith-Schuster, Johnson wasted no time getting in on the action, posting a 3/52/1 line on six targets. The number two WR for the Steelers meant more when Big Ben was under center, but it looks like it could still hold some value. This is a bench stash for now, but one that I believe could pay off down the line.

FAAB Budget: 10%

DISCLAIMER: There are a two wide receivers that need to be owned in 100% of leagues, the only reason they are not listed here is because they were discussed already in this column. These names are Mecole Hardman and DJ Chark. I would go as high as 30% on each of these names, as they are legitimate week winners right now, especially Hardman with Tyreek Hill still out. Go check your league waiver wire now as they are owned in under 50% of leagues currently.

Cheap Sleeper

In this section, I will key you in on one guy that you should get before the rest of the fantasy community catches up and sees them as a 10-15% FAAB guy. You get to have him this week for virtually free because you are awesome and read my column. And the winner is…

TE Will Dissly – Seattle Seahawks (46% Owned)

The current security blanket for Russel Wilson, the TE Will Dissly has given hope to those lacking a TE. With the pool as razor thin as ever at the position, owners are likely just streaming anyone with a pulse. Well, Dissly followed up a 2 TD performance with another score this week and is trending towards a solid play week to week. Wilson will not throw for four football fields worth of yards every game, but there is definite scoring upside every time out. This is someone who will be overlooked for those scrambling for flex plays and you can get him for less that 10% in most cases I would imagine.

FAAB Budget: 6%

Thanks for reading, and make sure to check out our podcast here for in-depth analysis. Plus, we will be discussing names that are not listed here that you should be looking at. Good luck and see you next week!

Matt, posing a question to you that I’ve also asked of Erik on his post:
Barkley owner looking for RB depth – have Jacobs to fill in, paired with Cook, so no immediate crisis, but JJ has a bye coming in week 6. 10-team non-PPR, no flex, start 3 WR, 6-man bench. Should I cut bait on Gallup for Hyde/Darrel Williams/RJones/Gallman level talent? There are currently plenty of good WRs on the wire (for example, last week I added McLaurin to back up my starting 3 WRs plus the injured Jeffery) – but OTOH Gallup showed so much potential in Week 1, and I can stack him with Dak when he’s healthy again.

Another Barkley owner here. I’m sorta comfortable with my starters in Lindsay and Mack but I have ZERO backup because I also had Guice. Should I maybe pay slightly more?

Also, how much to spend on Burkhead in a full point PPR? I lost Saquon and AB in the same week ?
