Waiver Wire: Week 5 Priority Adds Under 50% Owned

Matt Dean is here to let you know who the priority adds are heading into Week 5 waivers.

Happy Tuesday Fantasy Footballers and welcome to Week 5. I am Matt Dean (@MattDeanQBList) and I am here to help you recover from Week 4 with your priority adds from the waiver wire this week. Along with this article, co-writer Aaron Rader and I will be putting out a weekly Waiver Wire Podcast on Monday nights to help get you through the workday. You can find that here.

It is my hope that you are currently sitting pretty in your standings and have big FAAB budget left to grab the guys you need. If you are struggling, however, I am here to help. Slight disclaimer, it is a slim week. As you heard in my podcast linked above, there is just not that much quality under 50% owned. There are a few guys who I think will be extremely valuable down the line, however, and you need to pounce on these guys no matter where you stand in your league rankings

Before we get into the adds, let’s look and see how I did last week with my picks:

Wins: Ronald Jones, Wayne Gallman, Diontae Johnson, Will Dissly

Losses: Daniel Jones, Phillip Dorsett

Overall Record: 13-8

This will continue to be updated every week, and I count wins as players that were flex worthy during the week suggested.

With all that said, let’s hop right into the priority adds for Week 5.

The ownership percentage is based on Yahoo Fantasy Leagues.

Priority Adds

RB – Ronald Jones, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (44% Owned)

Last week, I wrote on Ronald Jones as a potential to runaway with the job and this week he started to stake his claim for that. You could have gotten him much cheaper last week, but there is still time to invest. Boasting a 19/70/1 line this week, Jones showed us that this may not be a flavor of the week running game any longer. Jones has legit RB2 upside if he continues to tote the rock with such fervor and if Jameis Winston can keep the ball away from the other team. He should find tough sledding next week against New Orleans who just held Ezekiel Elliot to a long gain of 8 yards, but stay with him, because his second half of the season is juicy.

FAAB Budget – 25%

WR- Golden Tate, New York Giants (49% Owned)

Remember this guy? Golden Tate has been out for four weeks with a suspension, but now returns and is ready to roll. Daniel Jones has done some work to revitalize the Giants passing attack and Tate is coming back to a much better situation than when Eli Manning was under center. Historically a PPR machine with the Lions, it will be seen how his target share ends up with Sterling Shepard and Evan Engram hogging a big target share currently. This is a potential WR2 that you could have gotten cheaper last week, but one that is worth the investment.

FAAB Budget: 25%

WR – Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers (6% Owned)

YOU DIDN’T LISTEN TO ME LAST WEEK! But really, last week I told you to stash this guy on your bench as he has major upside in the Steelers offense as the WR2 there. What did he do on Monday Night Football? Oh he only hung 6/77/1 on the hapless Bengals. Looking like a safe floor guy in this dink and dunk offense, Diontae Johnson is someone who will hold you over and provide flex appeal as we head into bye weeks and recover from some injuries. He was my WR2 this week in my 16-teamer (I lost Tyreek Hill Week One), but for you hopefully he can be an immediate plug-and-play flex.

FAAB Budget: 15%

Cheap Sleeper

In this section, I will key you in on one guy that you should get before the rest of the fantasy community catches up and sees them as a 10-15% FAAB guy. You get to have him this week for virtually free because you are awesome and read my column. And the winner is…

WR Cole Beasley – Buffalo Bills (12% Owned)

Cole Beasley is quietly putting together a strong PPR start to the year. Currently sitting top 15 in the NFL in targets among WRs, Beasley demands some attention in PPR leagues. Totaling 7/75 in Week 4 on a whopping 12 targets, it is safe to say that Beasley has built a nice floor for himself. Two pieces of good news here – number one, he is a flex play until further notice and number two, you can get him for basically free. Pick up Beasley and plug him in as a safe flex play as we head into bye weeks.

FAAB Budget: 3%

Thanks for reading, and make sure to check out our podcast here for in-depth analysis. Plus, we will be discussing names that are not listed here that you should be looking at. Good luck and see you next week!

  1. gene says:

Would you drop Philip Lindsay for either Howard, Jones or Samuels? Lindsay’s ceiling is lower with Freeman getting as much attention as he does and I have an urge to move on from Lindsay but it has to make sense.

  2. Jess says:

Would you drop either of Fuller, Curtis Samuel or Hollywood Brown for Beasley or Diontae? 0.5PPR.

Great content! And your guys’ advice hasn’t steered me wrong so far!
