What We Saw: Week 16

We Watched Every Week 16 Game So You Don't Have To - Here's What We Saw.

Baltimore Ravens vs Cleveland Browns

Baltimore Ravens

Quarterback

  • Lamar Jackson: 20/31, 238 yards, 3 TDs, 2 fumbles (1 lost) | 17 carries, 103 yards

Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense really didn’t look great early on. They turned the ball over on downs, fumbled on a handoff to Mark Ingram, and then punted twice. To close out the half, Jackson hit Mark Andrews on a couple of touchdowns to give the Ravens the lead. In the second half, Jackson had multiple chunk runs and hit Ingram for a touchdown to move his total up to three on the day. Jackson has been the best player in fantasy this season and this game was another example of that.

Running Backs

  • Mark Ingram: 8 carries, 55 yards | 2 targets, 2 receptions, 36 yards, 1 TD
  • Gus Edwards: 12 carries, 66 yards, 1 fumble | 1 target, 1 reception, 7 yards
  • Justice Hill: 3 carries, 19 yards, 1 TD | 4 targets, 3 receptions, 32 yards

Every running back got involved in this one. Mark Ingram had a nice scamper on a 12-yard touchdown reception. He did get banged up on a run-pass option with Jackson. Jackson pulled the ball to run and Ingram grabbed his calf after that. Ingram will surely play sparingly, if at all, next week. Gus Edwards fumbled early in this game and really wasn’t seen much until later in the game. He had some nice chunk runs and remains involved in this offense weekly. Justice Hill wasn’t seen much at all until garbage time. He looked great on his opportunities and will hopefully be more involved in the offense next season.

Wide Receivers

  • Marquise Brown: 2 targets, 1 reception, 6 yards
  • Mark Andrews: 9 targets, 6 receptions, 93 yards, 2 TDs
  • Nick Boyle: 4 targets, 3 receptions, 24 yards

Mark Andrews remains the focal point in this passing game. No other player on the Ravens had over four targets or three receptions. Andrews’ first touchdown was on a busted coverage where he walked in the endzone for a 39-yard score. His second one was a beautiful 14-yard pass from Jackson in the back of the endzone. Andrews is leading tight ends in touchdowns and with the Ravens getting into the red zone more than anyone, he will be a threat to score every week. Marquise Brown continues to show his boom or bust tendencies. He has been the clear number one receiver for the Ravens but has dealt with a number of lower-body injuries throughout the year. The Ravens don’t pass enough to have more than one or two fantasy viable receivers on a week to week basis.

Cleveland Browns

Quarterback

  • Baker Mayfield: 20/33, 192 yards, 2 TD, 1 Int, | 2 carries, 4 yards

Mayfield wasn’t great in this one. He missed some opportunities early in the game when the game was in hand. His touchdown was a beautiful back corner ball for Odell Beckham Jr. in the second half. Most of the day Mayfield was checking down a lot of the afternoon, he averaged only 5.8 yards per attempt. His interception was in garbage time when the game was out of reach. The disappointing year continues for Mayfield and he will try to end the year on a high note against Cincinnati next week.

Running Backs

  • Nick Chubb: 15 carries, 45 yards | 1 target
  • Kareem Hunt: 3 carries, 0 yards | 4 targets, 4 receptions, 33 yards

The Browns tried to establish the run in this one as that is what they did to beat Baltimore earlier this year. Unfortunately, with a healthy Brandon Williams up front for the Ravens, the Browns could not run effectively at all. The running backs were held to under 3.0 yards per carry and Chubb actually had a long of 12. The leader in rushing yards in the NFL, Chubb probably hurt you in your fantasy championships. Hunt continued to be involved in the passing game but did not generate anything on the ground.

Wide Receivers

  • Odell Beckham Jr.: 6 targets, 4 receptions, 41 yards, 1TD
  • Jarvis Landry: 8 targets, 7 receptions, 74 yards

The Browns receiving game went about the same as it has all season. Landry was the better and more efficient receiver. He caught 7 of 8 targets and had a nice chunk gain of 33. Beckham hasn’t had much of a ceiling this year but he caught a beautiful touchdown over Marcus Peters in the corner of the end zone. No other receivers or tight ends put up significant numbers for the Browns. With Landry and Beckham both dealing with injuries, one wonders if a better season is ahead next year.
