QB List’s Fantasy Football Rankings: Week 5

Erik Smith and Ryan Heath release their PPR fantasy football rankings for Week 5.

Ryan Heath’s QB Rankings

  • Trevor Lawrence had a rough showing against a historical good Eagles defense in poor weather last week. For context, Philadelphia is currently giving up more yards per attempt on the ground (5.0) than through the air (4.8). Lawrence still ranks 7th in EPA/pass attempt and 17th in expected points. Expect a bounce-back with the Jaguars implied nearly 26 points (tied-5th) this week against the Texans.
  • It’s rough sailing in the QB streamer waters this week. Most of the players we’ve been relying on through the first month of the season are now widely rostered. If you need a replacement for Tua Tagovailoa, backup Teddy Bridgewater may actually be your best option. Miami ranks 13th in implied total this week, and are favored by 3.5 points against a Jets defense allowing 7.3 yards per pass attempt. Bridgewater still gets to throw to Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, which is all the analysis really needed to put him in the streamer conversation this week.
  • Marcus Mariota is still just one of seven quarterbacks averaging over 7 rushing attempts per game (and another is the newly-hobbled Daniel Jones). As gross as it feels, that keeps Mariota as a desperation play even as an 8.5-point underdog against Tampa Bay. Perhaps the negative game script will inspire Arthur Smith to call some passing plays in the second half.
  • Of quarterbacks expected to start in Week 5, the top five in air yards per game are Carson WentzJared GoffZach WilsonDerek Carr, and Andy Dalton. Wilson and Dalton have more upside than you probably believe.
