Sleeper Spotlight: Derrius Guice
Washington Redskins
Quarterback:
- Dwayne Haskins (Sit)
Congratulations to Dwayne Haskins who got his first NFL to win on Sunday. However, for our purposes, Haskins put up just 5 fantasy points in that win. For the game, Haskins was 13/29 for 156 yards and threw one interception. He added 28 yards on the ground, but he’s got a long way to go before we consider him for fantasy purposes.
Running Backs:
- Derrius Guice (Sit)
- Adrian Peterson (Sit)
We have a full-blown RBBC in Washington as Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson each handled 11 touches in their Week 12 victory against the Lions. This is not a good situation. If one of those backs were handling the full workload of 22 touches, I could make an argument to start that back, even on a bad team, but in this situation, I’m sitting both Guice and Peterson.
Wide Receivers and Tight Ends:
- Terry McLaurin (Start/Flex)
- Kelvin Harmon (Sit)
- Jeremy Sprinkle (Sit)
Full disclosure, I love Terry McLaurin and it was very encouraging seeing him get targeted 12 times. However, being that those targets are coming from a raw rookie quarterback, they come at a lower quality. Due to the workload, McLaurin is still startable as a flex option, however, and the Panthers have allowed middle of the pack fantasy points per game to wide receivers, so the matchup is fine. Kelvin Harmon has now seen six targets in each of his last two games, making him Haskins’ second-favorite target. He’s a player to keep an eye on moving forward. Jeremy Sprinkle has taken over at the tight end for the Redskins following injuries to Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis but has just four catches over his last three games.
Carolina Panthers
Quarterback:
- Kyle Allen (Sit)
Now that bye-weeks are over, Kyle Allen should not be your starting quarterback. For the year, the Redskins rank in the middle of the pack in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks. Allen has mixed in decent fantasy weeks like last week (QB6) with poor performances like Week 11, where he threw four picks. That type of inconsistency is not going to cut it at this point in the season.
Running Backs:
- Christian McCaffrey (Start/RB1)
Christian McCaffrey’s RB1. Start him every week. What did you expect, more analysis? The Redskins are bad and the Lions should feel bad for losing to them last week. It’s a short week and we’re trying to get this week’s game previews done. Happy Thanksgiving y’all!
Wide Receivers and Tight Ends:
- D.J. Moore (Start/WR1)
- Curtis Samuel (Sit)
- Greg Olsen (Start/TE1)
D.J. Moore has officially broken out. He has now seen eight or more targets in seven straight games, averaging 10 targets per game and 92 yards per game. He’s a WR1 moving forward for me, especially in favorable matchups, which is exactly what the Redskins provide. Curtis Samuel’s role in the offense has continued to drop with Moore’s breakout. He appears to have hit rock bottom in Week 12 as he caught just one ball for nine yards on four targets. This is not the type of player you can rely on to lead you into the postseason. Greg Olsen now has three consecutive games of at least five catches. He also has a 17% target share during those games. That makes Olsen a top-end option in this landscape of tight ends.

Hey Aaron! Thanks for putting these out every week. I’m struggling to figure out which 2/3 to start out of Lockett, Carson, and Hopkins this week. Could also throw Waller or Hilton into the mix, but I don’t really think they’re in the same realm of value as the three aforementioned guys.
I’m leaning Lockett/Hopkins, even though Hopkins could toss up a donut as Amari did, Carson also doesn’t have an easy matchup and it seems like the snap count share is trending in Penny’s direction. Any thoughts?
Thanks Aaron – I look forward to your column every week. Two questions, Gordon v Ingram, and can you pick two from these three: Allen, Beckham, Robinson. thanks again!
