New York Jets

Quarterback:

  • Sam Darnold (Sit)

It’s rather pointless to play the “if only” game, but it’s hard to ignore. Week 17 could have been meaningful for the Jets, if only they had won just one of these games: Buffalo Week 1, Jacksonville Week 8, Miami Week 9, or the Bengals Week 13. However, the reality is they failed to do so, and now they end their season with a chance to finish with an empty 7-9 record. Sam Darnold has a chance to have a strong game – and finish the season with 20+ touchdowns & 3,000 pass yards – with Buffalo likely resting its starters with a playoff spot secured, but I wouldn’t recommend starting him should you be in a Week 17 championship.

Running Backs:

  • Le’Veon Bell: (Start, RB2)
  • Ty Montgomery: (Sit)
  • Bilal Powell: (Sit)

As it’s been all season, Le’Veon Bell can be started and treated as an RB2 off volume-sake. Ty Montgomery and Bilal Powell are not startable this week. Bell didn’t have the #RevengeGame we all anticipated last week against Pittsburgh, but he did carry the ball 25 times to the tune of 72 yards. I would expect the carry count to be there again in this final game on the season.

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends:

  • Robby Anderson (Start, WR3/FLEX)
  • Jamison Crowder (Sit)
  • Vyncint Smith (Sit)
  • Daniel Brown (Sit)
  • Trevon Wesco (Sit)

An opening-drive touchdown saved Robby Anderson’s fantasy day last week. That being said, I’d still feel okay starting him as a FLEX/WR3, depending on your league’s lineup format. While this could very well be his final game as a Jet as he is due to enter free agency, it could also be a chance to prove his worth to stay in New York. It would be wise for the Jets to retain him and treat him as the solid WR2 that he is; they don’t have to sign him to WR1 money. Jamison Crowder and Vyncint Smith are sitting for me this week. As are tight ends Daniel Brown and Trevon Wesco.

Buffalo Bills

Quarterback:

  • Josh Allen (Sit)
  • Matt Barkley (Sit)

If a playoff spot wasn’t already locked for Buffalo, Josh Allen would enter this game in a smash-spot. However, while he is expected to play, it won’t be for long. It’s quite possible he only sees a quarters’ worth of the field before Matt Barkley finishes the game, but even I wouldn’t start in this one.

Running Backs:

  • Devin Singletary (Sit)
  • Frank Gore (Start if Singletary sits, RB2/FLEX)
  • T.J. Yeldon (Sit)

This situation is a bit interesting. Will the Bills opt to rest Devin Singletary ahead Wild Card weekend? Similar to Allen, even if Singletary is active, I can’t see him seeing many carries throughout the entire game. That being said, Frank Gore is an interesting FLEX option given the volume he may end up seeing if Singletary is on the sideline. T.J. Yeldon though, I wouldn’t start him.

Wide Receivers/Tight End:

  • John Brown (Sit)
  • Cole Beasley (Start, WR3)
  • Isaiah McKenzie (Sit)
  • Robert Foster (Sit)

Can John Brown find the end zone in this one? Absolutely. The risk here, like Allen & Singletary, is how long he may play. Will it be enough time to score? Possibly, but I much rather take a gamble on starting a Cole Beasley in a game like this given the (rest) circumstances. Isaiah McKenzie and Robert Foster, while interesting options are not worth starting in season-long leagues; someone like Foster could very well be a nice DFS play.
