Oakland Raiders

Quarterback

  • Derek Carr: (Sit)

I’m thinking Derek Carr is an easy “sit” this week. The Packers defense is averaging about 14 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks per game. Carr has only one game this season where he has surpassed 14 fantasy points. The Packers have been pretty middling in passing yards allowed but I still think they will do a good job bringing the pressure to Carr.

Running Backs:

  • Josh Jacobs: (Start, RB1 upside)
  • DeAndre Washington: (Sit)

I’m liking what I’ve seen so far from Josh Jacobs and this matchup should have his name written all over it. Currently, the Packers are bottom-10 in rushing yards allowed per game. If the Raiders are smart enough to stick with the run and give Jacobs plenty of carries I think he easily has RB1 upside this week. DeAndre Washington had his best performance of the season Week 5 against the Bears but that stat line was mostly padded by his three catches and a touchdown. I wouldn’t worry too much about Washington just yet.

Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends:

  • Tyrell Williams (FLEX if active)
  • Darren Waller (Start, TE2)
  • Foster Moreau (Sit)
  • Trevor Davis (Sit)

The Raiders will be hoping to have Tyrell Williams back for this matchup after he missed the Week 5 matchup against the Bears (Raiders had a bye last week). Williams still isn’t back at practice so his availability is still up in the air. If he’s active he should be at least considered in your FLEX spot. Williams has been getting a healthy target share and his nose for the end zone is making his floor safer and safer by the week. Darren Waller put up his lowest fantasy performance of the season in Week 5 against the Bears but the Raiders weren’t throwing the ball much. I believe Waller should have a nice little bounce-back game even if he doesn’t explode for 20 plus points. I will admit it’s a bit worrying that Foster Moreau seems to be limiting Waller’s upside the past two Raiders games. That situation is worth monitoring if you’re a Waller owner. Trevor Davis may have a big game at some point, but I’m certainly not keeping him on the bench until he does. He will be an inconsistent option at best this year.

Green Bay Packers

Quarterback:

  • Aaron Rodgers: (Start, QB1)

Aaron Rodgers has had a bit of an up-and-down season in terms of fantasy production. It seems like Rodgers is putting up better fantasy stat lines when the Packers need to throw the football (hot take, I know). The Raiders’ defense has been pretty good against the run while their secondary is pretty exploitable. I expect the Packers to try and pass the ball plenty, but who will be catching those balls is another story. Out of 15 incompletions last week, seven were just plain dropped by Packers receivers. That’s unacceptable when you’ve got a future Hall-of-Famer throwing the football. Opposing quarterbacks are averaging 22.6 fantasy points against the Raiders this year. Rodgers should have a good week.

Running Backs:

  • Aaron Jones: (Start, RB2)
  • Jamaal Williams: (Risky FLEX)

I’m still ranking Aaron Jones ahead of Jamaal Williams for the time being, but the trend from last week is not encouraging. Williams had his best fantasy performance so far this year, surpassing his next best game by over 10 points. Jones had a rough day with a fumble and a bad drop that would have set up the Packers nicely in the red zone. Although Jones wasn’t benched or anything like that, Williams still saw the bulk of the carries for the rest of the game. Williams finished the day with a 53% snap rate to Jones’ 49%. It’s looking like this team is committed to the two-back approach for the foreseeable future. Like I said, I’m still ranking Jones over Williams for now. Unfortunately, I just don’t see anything more than RB2 production for Jones as long as Williams is healthy and in the mix. I can’t see Williams as any more than a risky flex play with upside for now.

Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends:

  • Davante Adams: (Start if active, WR2)
  • Allen Lazard: (Good FLEX option if Adams inactive)
  • Marquez Valdes-Scantling: (Sit)
  • Geronimo Allison: (Sit)
  • Marcedes Lewis: (Sit)
  • Jimmy Graham: (Sit)

Davante Adams should be an easy start if he’s healthy this week. It’s been clear the Packers have been hurting without him, even if they’re winning. The Raiders have an exploitable secondary and I would expect good things from Adams if he’s active. Allen Lazard stepped up last week and made his presence known in this offense. He had an amazing catch last week to put the Packers back in the game and, word is, Aaron Rodgers, put in a good word to even have Lazard in the game. After the crazy touchdown pass, Rodgers continued to lean on Lazard as the Packers drove downfield for the game-winning field goal. Lazard should be a good FLEX option especially if Adams is inactive again. Marquez Valdes-Scantling has not been the WR1 many were expecting him to be in Adams’ absence. He’s scored 7.7 points or fewer the past three weeks. Valdes-Scantling still has some big-play upside but it seems like he and Rodgers still aren’t on the same page. I’m sitting him until he shows he can handle the increased responsibility on this team.

Geronimo Allison will be tough to trust, especially this week. He left last week’s game early with a concussion and chest injury so it’s entirely possible he doesn’t even play this week. For my money, I have no clue why Marcedes Lewis isn’t getting used more in the passing game. He’s looked much better than Jimmy Graham, who looked like he had bricks tied to his hands and feet when he was running last week. It’s pretty confusing really, the Packers are down multiple receivers and Lewis is the only tight end looking like a competent receiver out there. They could easily roll out more two-tight-end sets but I’m no head coach. Unreliable usage and unpredictable fantasy production make neither a viable option.

  1. Luciano Mulazzi says:

You have Justice Hill listed as the handcuff, so I’m wasting a roster spot on Gus?

    • Erik Smith says:

If something happened to Ingram, I think it’s fair to say that it would be a committee approach to replace him. Depends if you would prefer the workhorse and TD role of Gus or the passing game role with Hill. As someone who drafted Hill everywhere, I have long since dropped him. Gus is probably the safer handcuff in my opinion, Hill maybe has more upside in a PPR league.

  2. Cody says:

Might be worth noting Josh Gordon had one target after he left the game with a knee injury in second quarter.

  3. Chooch says:

Odd that you’re taking that stance on Murray. Everything that i’ve read has said that Kamara possibly has a high ankle sprain and is most likely not playing. Even with Kamara playing last week, Murray spit out 10 points in my half ppr league.

  4. Great breakdown of the QBs in Week 7! It’s really helpful to see everything in one place. Thanks for the time and effort you put into this post!
