It’s Championship Week. One final matchup stands between you and a fantasy football title. There’s no room for hesitation, no margin for error—and every lineup decision matters more than ever. This week’s Wide Receiver rankings break down who you can trust, who carries league-winning upside, and who could sink your season if you start them. Whether you’re choosing between a steady floor or chasing ceiling, these Start/Sit calls are built to help you make the right move when it matters most. Let’s finish the job and bring home the championship. 💪
Two wide receivers in weird, high-risk situations for Week 17 are Terry McLaurin and Justin Jefferson. On paper, both have top-five fantasy matchups against the Cowboys and Lions—but their quarterback situations are major red flags heading into championship week. Both Marcus Mariota and J.J. McCarthy exited Week 16 with injuries, forcing Josh Johnson and Max Bromser into action. That uncertainty alone is enough to change expectations.
Bromser accounted for 29 of Jefferson’s 85 receiving yards in Week 16, but the concern is deeper. The last time Bromser started, Jefferson managed just four receiving yards. While a Week 17 matchup against the Lions sounds appealing, this could be a classic trap game. Unless Jordan Addison’s injury sidelines him again—forcing volume Jefferson’s way—Jefferson profiles as a risky WR2 at best rather than his usual elite WR1. The matchup is strong, but quarterback instability caps both floor and ceiling.
The same concern applies to McLaurin if Josh Johnson starts in Week 17. Johnson played at least half of Week 16, and McLaurin failed to record a single catch with him under center. If Mariota can play, McLaurin jumps right back into solid WR2 territory. The Cowboys continue to allow explosive downfield plays, and McLaurin’s 14.8 ADOT (9th-highest in the NFL) keeps the upside intact. But if Johnson is the quarterback, expectations need to be significantly lowered.
A receiving corps you should try to avoid in Week 17—if possible—is the Los Angeles Chargers. They draw a brutal matchup against the Houston Texans, who rank 2nd in the NFL against fantasy wide receivers. Since Week 8, Houston has allowed just two receivers to eclipse 65 receiving yards, consistently limiting both volume and explosive plays.
We’ve dealt with the weekly headache of trying to identify which Chargers receiver to trust all season, and championship week is not the time to guess. If you have alternatives, you should strongly consider looking elsewhere. Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston are FLEX-only options
A couple of under-the-radar receivers could swing championship matchups in Week 17 if you’re digging for FLEX upside. Wan’Dale Robinson should be in a strong bounce-back spot against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders continue to struggle against slot receivers, and Robinson’s short-area role gives him a solid PPR floor with upside if the game script turns pass-heavy.
Mack Hollins against the New York Jets could quietly pay off. Hollins has seen steady target volume in recent weeks and already produced against New York earlier this season. With the Jets’ secondary showing cracks late in the year, Hollins profiles as a sneaky FLEX play for managers dealing with injuries or matchup landmines.
