Week 3 of the NFL season and we’re back in the groove. The What We Saw team is primed and ready to rock for another week of NFL action. This week saw a handful of close games and upsets in the 1:00 slate, a couple of exciting high-scoring affairs in the late slate and a tale of two completely different halves on Sunday night. And let’s not forget the Atlanta Falcons’ complete dismantling of the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night in Lambeau. Overall, it was a fun week for most of us, especially fantasy managers of this week’s featured athlete: Brock Bowers.

After unexpectedly missing the first two weeks of the season due to an undisclosed injury that required a minor surgery, Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers came back with a vengeance in Week 3, determined to make up for lost time as the Raiders attempted to improve to 3-0 against a plucky New Orleans Saints team, playing at home.
From the jump, Bowers looked like a fresh, fit focal point of the Raiders’ offense, pulling in catch after catch while creating mismatches against safeties and linebackers. Nearly all of his offensive snaps were taken from either the slot or split out wide, with virtually zero snaps taken inline. He was basically the Raiders’ WR1 – a big-bodied, smooth running WR1 in a tight end shell. In the fourth quarter, with the Raiders leading by one and looking for a knockout blow, Bowers landed the football equivalent of the Rock Bottom, catching a touchdown on an out route for the perfect finishing move.

Around the league, five games finished with scoring margins of five points or fewer, including the Baltimore Ravens’ 34-31 win over the Dallas Cowboys in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Cowboys looked to land a kill shot with the ball at the one-yard line with under 20 seconds remaining, but a comedy of errors ensued. Not only was America’s Team was forced to settle for a game-tying field goal, but then they allowed Lamar Jackson to complete a pass with one second remaining, getting the Ravens in range for a walk-off field goal. The Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts all won nail-biters at home while the hapless Miami Dolphins lost the lynchpin of their offense as De’Von Achane left with an apparent knee injury.
