What We Saw: Week 10

The Patriots are back, and so is Patrick Mahomes, but the AFC is still a mess

The Buffalo Bills came to New York to play their AFC East rival New York Jets. The key injury for this game was the number two overall pick, Zach Wilson. The Bills were coming into this week with a bad taste in their mouths having lost to the Jaguars, so they decided to take out their frustrations on the young Jets squad. This game fell apart for the Jets after Mike White threw three interceptions in the third quarter. The Game result was Buffalo Bills 45, New York Jets 17.

Buffalo Bills

Quarterback

Josh Allen: 21/28, 366 yards, 2 TD, INT| 2 carries, 3 yards

Josh Allen showed back up again in this game after having a zero touchdown and 2 INT loss to the Jaguars. Allen started out this game going 3 for 4 with 43 yards, while throwing a TD to Matt Breida on the first drive. On the second drive of the game, Allen moved the ball downfield with a 12-yard seam to Isaiah McKenzie. This led to Allen attempting to throw a TD to Diggs on a fade but, unfortunately, Diggs ran out of room to reel in the pass. Three drives later the Bills would go back to the same Diggs fade, this time scoring the TD.

Allen opened up the second half with a 23-yard dig route to Diggs. After this, he would let the run game get the offense into the endzone. After a Tre White interception, Allen took to the air, throwing a dagger to Emmanuel Sanders for 31 yards that was called back on offsetting penalties. Allen the very next play threw a bomb to Gabriel Davis for 49 yards, setting up Breida’s second TD of the game. The Bills’ next drive was a carbon copy of its previous one with Allen hooking up with Sanders, and getting it called back, before slicing the defense with a 36-yard dart into triple coverage, which was bobbled and caught by Davis. Allen’s lone mistake of the game happened on the next drive with a pass getting deflected by a defender and caught by safety Sharod Neasman. On the last drive for the Bills, Allen continued to air the ball out this time hitting Diggs deep for a 43 yard gain.

This was a back-to-basics game for Allen, and he got to use that cannon of an arm early and often in this game. This game was a reminder of how good Allen really is, and how on any given Sunday he can tear through a defense.  This is the Allen the Bills are going to need for the rest of season especially with the arrival of the Patriots as legit threats in the AFC East.

Running Back

Devin Singletary: 7 carries, 43 yards, TD | 1 target, 1 reception, 6 yards

Matt Breida: 3 carries, 28 yards, TD | 3 targets, 3 receptions, 22 yards, TD

Zack Moss: 7 carries, 27 yards, TD

This was a collective effort by the Bills backfield that started with Matt Breida scoring a receiving TD on the first drive, then scoring a second TD on a 15-yard run. Breida had a nice return to relevance game today. The one thing Breida did wrong was fumbling the ball in the fourth quarter.

Zach Moss and Devin Singletary both scored on short TD runs in this game, but neither showed out as the lead guy. Breida’s output in this game seems unsustainable, but I hope that this game leads to more touches as the Bills still have no true dominant RB.

Wide Receiver/Tight End

Stefon Diggs: 13 targets, 8 receptions, 162 yards, TD

Gabe Davis: 3 targets, 3 receptions, 105 yards

Emmanuel Sanders: 2 targets, 2 receptions, 27 yards

Dawson Knox: 1 target, 1 reception, 17 yards

Cole Beasley: 2 targets, 2 receptions, 15 yards

Isaiah McKenzie: 3 targets, 1 reception, 12 yards | 2 carries, 17 yards, TD

Stefon Diggs came back alive in this game going for 162 yards on eight receptions. Diggs was very productive on deep-ball targets, getting 100 of his 162 yards on two plays. Diggs also barely missed out on a second touchdown on a fade route that Diggs and Allen barely missed on. Gabriel Davis was the other deep ball threat in this game, catching all three of his targets including one that went for 49 and 36 yards. Emmanuel Sanders‘ day was more or less missed opportunities, such as his two big catches (25, and 31 yarders) that were negated due to offsetting penalties. Dawson Knox was back in this game after being injured for several weeks, and while he didn’t score he did catch a 17-yard pass. Isaiah McKenzie and Cole Beasley tallied 5 targets, 3 receptions, for 27 yards combined.

New York Jets

Quarterback

Mike White: 24/44, 251 yards, 4 INT

Joe Flacco: 3/3, 47 yards, TD

Mike White is officially out of the conversation for the Jets QB, though it’s not like he was really there, but for sure the experiment is over after this week’s performance. There was really nothing positive about White’s game. He did what he’s done all season, and that’s dump off short passes to his playmakers and let them do the work. White’s first-half woes were nothing compared to his third-quarter woes.

White just couldn’t get anything going in this game and it showed in the third quarter as he threw 3 INTs. Throughout the entire third quarter, White couldn’t get away from throwing into double coverage. He just forced every throw and was eventually replaced by Joe Flacco after he was injured on the last drive. Flacco would come in and finish the drive with a 15 yard TD to Elijah Moore.

I think it’s safe to say that the Mike White experiment is officially over and Zach Wilson will be welcomed back with open arms when he’s finally healthy.

Running Back

Michael Carter: 16 carries, 39 yards, TD | 4 targets, 4 receptions, 43 yards

Tevin Coleman: 4 carries, 29 yards| 3 targets, 2 receptions, 4 yards

Ty Johnson 2 carries, 2 yards | 8 targets, 5 receptions, 36 yards

Michael Carter had a good game overall, and he continued to prove he’s a valuable receiving back by reeling in all four of his targets, including one for 19 yards. Carter would also score on a one-yard run in garbage time. Tevin Coleman was back on the field and only garnered four carries in this one with half his yards coming off one 15 yard run. Ty Johnson continues to be a presence on this offense, getting targeted eight times and catching five passes. Going forward with the inevitable switch back to Zach Wilson, it’ll be interesting to see if the Jets continue to use Johnson as a receiver or if they switch up the offense.

Wide Receiver/Tight End

Corey Davis: 7 targets, 5 receptions, 93 yards

Elijah Moore: 6 targets, 3 receptions, 44 yards, TD

Ryan Griffin: 2 targets, 1 reception, 21 yards

Jamison Crowder: 6 targets, 3 receptions, 20 yards

Braxton Berrios: 3 targets, 3 receptions, 19 yards

Keelan Cole: 5 targets, 1 reception, 18 yards

Corey Davis had 65 yards on four catches when the team was down by at least 28 points. Davis was covered well by Tre White all game and it wasn’t until the game was out of reach that the Jets receivers came to life. Elijah Moore was in the same boat until the last drive, as he accumulated two of his three receptions and 40 of his 44 yards when Joe Flacco came into the game. It was a rough day to be in this offense and garbage time definitely saved some days, but overall there’s no one you can totally trust game to game on this team for fantasy football.
