What We Saw: Week 2

Did your QB survive the week?

Week 2 was a strange week in the NFL, highlighted by injuries to QBs, injuries to the 49ers’ RBs, and some big days out of some unheralded WRs. Courtland Sutton is one of those unheralded guys thanks to his slippage down many draft boards in the preseason. Was there some concern for him coming back from a torn ACL last year? Sure, absolutely, and some of it was probably warranted. He looked fine in Week 1, but I don’t think anyone expected his monster nine catch, 159 yard stat line in Week 2 despite the Broncos being without Jerry Jeudy.

Meanwhile, Cooper Kupp is another guy that many folks overlooked in drafts and he picked right up where he left off after Week 1. That’s now 16 catches for 271 yards and 3 TD for Kupp in the Stafford-led Rams offense and I think all of us who passed on him are rethinking that right now.

Finally, Henry Ruggs was overlooked by many after his poor rookie season and he finally had a breakout game of sorts, including a 61 yard TD where he absolutely burned a defensive back to get open deep. Suddenly, Las Vegas is 2-0 after wins against Baltimore and Pittsburgh, and maybe they’re for real? Only time will tell, but Ruggs looked the part of a first-round receiver on Sunday.
