Cowboys @ Seahawks
Final Score: Seahawks 22, Cowboys 14
Writer: Chad Simpson (@CaoChadTTV on Twitter)
It was a quiet night for both teams with most starters resting or playing just a handful of snaps. Zach Charbonnet showcased a clear upgrade over the rest of the backup RBs in Seattle. Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a solid outing as the main starter to see the playing field for either team.
Three Up
- Zach Charbonnet – Looked strong as the starter with KW3 sitting. Outplayed all other RB in the game on either side. Entrenched as the 1B to Walker
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba – Focal point of the starting offense for the Seahawks. Hauled in all of his targets for quality yardage.
- Jalen Tolbert – With many starters sitting, Tolbert feasted to the tune of 6 targets, the most on either side.
Three Down
- Will Grier -Did nothing of note to push Cooper Rush for backup duties.
- Simi Fehoko – His lone catch in 4 tries went for negative yards.
- Fans – This was an ugly boring game that only briefly showcased some of the fantasy relevant talent on these two teams.
Dallas Cowboys
| Preseason Week 1 |
Quarterback
Will Grier: 13/18, 136 Yards INT | 2 Carries, 7 Yards, 1 Fumble (Recovered)
Unimpressive night sees Grier as a clear 3rd behind Rush and Prescott.
Cooper Rush: 9/14, 96 Yards, TD
Running Back
Malik Davis: 8 Carries, 32 Yards
Rico Dowdle: 8 Carries, 38 Yards | 3 Targets, 2 Receptions, 9 Yards, TD
Deuce Vaughn: 5 Carries, 14 Yards, TD | 1 Target, 1 Reception
His night was uneventful with an easy TD being the lone noteworthy moment. The lack of interesting things to say for this game does not deter me from targeting Vaughn as a dart throw and as a handcuff for Pollard in drafts.
Wide Receiver/Tight End
Luke Schoonmaker: 2 Targets, 2 Receptions, 22 Yards
It was good to Schoonmaker show no ill effects of the plantar fasciitis he dealt with. He can now work towards the lofty goal of replacing Dalton Schultz in the offense.
Jalen Tolbert: 6 Targets, 4 Receptions, 66 Yards
Tolbert benefitted from being 1 of just 3 NFL caliber passing game options on the field for the Cowboys.
Dontario Drummond: 2 Targets, 2 Receptions, 42 Yards
Peyton Hendershot: 2 Targets, 1 Reception, 7 Yards
Simi Fehoko: 4 Targets, 1 Reception -2 Yards
Seattle Seahawks
| Preseason Week 1 |
Quarterback
Geno Smith: 5/6, 46 Yards | 1 Carry, 2 Yards
Geno had a short night as did many on both squads. Geno should be a locked in QB2 when the season starts.
Drew Lock: 5/6, 119 Yards
Lock moved the ball effectively in his time behind center. Despite the offensive fugue he managed to uncork a series of efficient passes.
Running Back
Zach Charbonnet: 3 Carries, 31 Yards | 1 Target, 1 Reception, 1 Yard
Charbonnet had an abbreviated appearance but flashed some exciting tools. His value will hinge on gaining a meaningful share of the touches when KW3 is healthy or a KW3 injury.
Notes
- Managed to cut back while stiff-arming the defender at the same time but unfortunately couldn’t quite keep it in bounds or he would’ve housed it.
DeeJay Dallas: 5 Carries, 9 Yards, TD
SaRodorick Thompson Jr.: 11 Carries, 50 Yards, TD | 1 Target, 1 Reception
Wide Receiver/Tight End
Jaxon Smith-Njigba: 3 Targets, 3 Receptions, 58 Yards
Smith-Njigba did a good job of showcasing his sure hands with his 3 targets. Of all the rookie WRs going in the first round of FYPD, Smith-Njigba appears to be the most bust-proof of them all.
Missed Opportunities
- Came within a defender’s fingertip of the end zone on one throw
Tyler Lockett: 1 Target, 1 Reception, 6 Yards
Lockett had just one catch on the evening. His role in this offense is still quite unknown with Smith-Njigba shining. Draft with caution.
Noah Fant: 1 Target, 1 Reception, 21 Yards
I’m a big Noah Fant truther. Seeing him healthy and getting higher quality targets than Dissly brings me endless joy. That being said, until he shows more in regular season play he’s a TE3 at best.
Will Dissly: 1 Target, 1 Reception, 8 Yards
Jake Bobo: 3 Targets, 2 Receptions, 43 Yards, 1 Fumble (Recovered)
One of the lone sources of entertainment. Big play Bobo hauled in a a huge reception early in the 1st quarter.
The UDFA has had one of the most eventful preseasons of any player as he tries to crack the Seahawks tight WR room.
Cody Thompson: 1 Target, 1 Reception, 32 Yards
