QB List’s Fantasy Football Rankings: Week 2

Erik Smith and Ryan Heath release their PPR fantasy football rankings for Week 2.

Ryan Heath’s QB Rankings

  • While some quarterbacks disappointed in Week 1, there are few I’m willing to immediately cut bait on. The waiver wire and streaming tier holds some intriguing options this week, but none that I believe have the season-long upside of a Justin Fields or Trey Lance. You aren’t bailing on these guys after one game in a monsoon.
  • Starting the streaming tier off are two quarterbacks playing each other, Carson Wentz (last week’s fantasy QB3) and Jared Goff (last week’s fantasy QB18). Commanders at Lions is currently sitting at a 49-point over/under with Goff and the Lions favored by 3. Not a sentence I thought I’d be typing as early as Week 2. Wentz and the Commanders ranked 3rd in pass rate over expectation last weekend. Both the Lions and Commanders pushed the pace in their openers, ranking 8th and 4th in total snaps, respectively. I am buying into this game as a potential shootout, and both quarterbacks as strong streamers with their bevy of pass-catching weapons. As the Weekly Range of Outcomes Tool shows, Wentz makes for a logical play over someone like Fields this week.

  • Marcus Mariota was one of only five quarterbacks with double-digit rush attempts to open 2022. He also ranked 10th in air yards per attempt, pushing the ball down the field more aggressively than we’ve seen in the past. He’s no more than a desperation start (or a strong contrarian DFS play) this week as a 10.5-point underdog against the Rams, but the day I’m touting him as a strong add may come sooner than later.
  • Aaron Rodgers has a chance to get right against the Bears this week (implied 26.25 points). His fantasy performance would have been much improved had Christian Watson not dropped a likely deep touchdown, but it’s fair to be a bit worried about his production in an offense lacking weapons to throw to.
