New York Jets

Quarterback

Zach Wilson (Sit)

Let’s take a look. CBS’s 11th best defense in giving up points to the quarterback position. A road divisional game. A QB with 11 interceptions and only 6 passing touchdowns and is missing his 2 best pass-catching options. That’s a HARD pass on Zach Wilson this week. He only has 2 games over 250 yards. He is only completing 58% percent of his passes. He looks like what you expect from a rookie on a bad team. I might not even start him in 2 QB leagues. He has salvaged his fantasy days recently with rushing touchdowns but it is not part of his skill set. They have been goal-line QB sneak-type plays. You have to have better options this week especially since it’s the first week of most fantasy playoffs.

Running Backs

Tevin Coleman (Start, flex), Ty Johnson (Sit, Flex), Austin Walter (Sit) La’Mical Perine (Sit) Michael Carter (Sit)

So I’m going to go off the assumption that both Michael Carter (ankle) and Tevin Coleman (concussion) are available for this week 15 game. With that in mind, it makes players like Austin Walter and La’Mical Perine useless and probably inactive. I think Ty Johnson could still be involved in the passing game so he might get points because of PPR. I think they don’t rush Carter back and limit his snaps because they don’t want to further the injury and they aren’t playing for much. Tevin Coleman could see the bulk of the carries as he did in weeks 12 and 13. If that’s the case I think he is a flex play. He was averaging 4.19 and 5.27 yards per carry in those games so he has been efficient enough. The lack of rushing touchdowns across the board is what should scare most fantasy owners away.  Outside of Carter’s 4, only Walter and Johnson have one each on the season. They face a tough run defense in the Dolphins so I don’t expect much from the rushing attack for the Jets.

 Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends

Corey Davis (OUT), Jamison Crowder (Sit, Flex), Elijah Moore (OUT), Denzel Mims (Sit), Ryan Griffen (Sit), Braxton Berrios (Sit)

There isn’t much to love here either for the Jets. Sorry Jets fans. The two best wide receivers in Corey Davis and Elijah Moore are out. Week 14 against the Saints, Wilson had 42 attempts but only 19 completions. That’s pretty sad all the way around. The targets were pretty spread out. Braxton Berrios led the team with 10. D.J. Montgomery, Keelan Cole, and Jamison Crowder had 6 each. Crowder is really the only one who has ever shown consistent ability to produce for fantasy. He has 4 games this year in double-digit points, Berrios has 3. Crowder also leads the team with 12 RedZone targets and played on 91% of the team’s snaps in week 14. Berrios played on 41% and only has 5 red-zone targets. Cole played on 83% of the week 14 stats but only hauled in 1 of his 6 targets. I don’t think you can really trust anyone on a team that has only scored over 21 points 3 times this season and last played the Dolphins back in week 11 where they scored 17 points.

Miami Dolphins

Quarterback

Tua Tugovailoa (Sit, QB2)

Tua Tugovailoa has been leading the Miami Dolphin back into the playoff hunt. He has 5 touchdowns and only 1 interception over the past 3 games. He looks to continue the playoff push against the hapless Jets in week 15. The Jets are bad against the pass. CBS has them ranked 27th in giving up points to the QB position. Tua just played the Jets in week 11 where he had 273 yards and 2 touchdowns and an interception. the former Alabama QB hasn’t used his legs much in the past few weeks but still has the ability to add to his fantasy day on the ground. I’m not super confident in starting him this week. It’s a big week for fantasy playoffs and there are no teams on byes so there are lots of other good options out there who have higher upsides. He only has 2 out of 7 games over 20 points. Only 3 games over 250 yards. He lacks the high-end upside of other quarterbacks.

Running Backs

Duke Johnson (Start, Flex), Malcolm Brown (Out), Myles Gaskin (OUT), Salvon Ahmed (Sit), Phillip Lindsay (Sit)

This is a huge situation to watch. Myles Gaskin, Phillip Lindsay, and Salvon Ahmed are all currently on the Covid list. That leaves Duke Johnson and Gerrid Doaks as the active running backs on the roster. There is hope that Malcolm Brown could return from a quad injury. The Jets are the worst team in stopping the run, so whoever gets the starting role is worth a flex start this week. The Dolphins should get up early and be looking to run down the clock so I expect plenty of carries to go around. I have Johnson as a flex start right now but that would change to Malcolm Brown if he is active. If any of the other guys come off the covid list I put them as a start flex and maybe higher. The order I rank them if they were all playing would be Gaskins, Ahmed, Brown, Lindsay, Johnson, Doaks.

Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends

Jaylen Waddle (Start, WR2) DeVante Parker (Start, WR3 ), Albert Wilson (Sit, flex), Mike Gesicki (Start)

Jaylen Waddle went on COvid-IR. I would still leave everyone where they are with coverage now being able to get more focused. I might jump Mack Hollins up to a flex because of Touchdown potential.

Jaylen Waddle has quietly been one of the best rookies this year. He already has 849 yards and 86 receptions on the year. He has only 2 games with 5 or fewer targets. In the past 3 games, he has seen a combined 30 targets. He is leading the team in red-zone targets with 16. DeVante Parker has missed a ton of time this year. He returned in week 13 and posted 5 for 5 with 62 yards. He only played on 71% of the snaps which seemed to be because of some rust. The Dolphins had a week 14 bye so they have had time for players to get fully healthy and scheme to get their best players the ball. One of those players is tight end Mike Gesicki who 6 games this year in double-digit points. He is second on the team in red-zone targets with 12. He only has 2 touchdowns on the year which limits some of his higher-end upsides. Wide receiver Albert Wilson received 8 targets in week 13 so maybe the Dolphins will look to get him more involved coming out of the bye. With Will Fuller possibly practicing but not expected to play other receivers could see some opportunities. Mack Hollins is tied for the team lead with 4 touchdowns on the season despite playing limited snaps and only seeing 7 red-zone targets.
