Week 5 Recap
In Week 6, four NFL teams enjoy a bye week, and none are happier about it than T.J. Hockenson, who sustained a concussion in Week 5. Hopefully, no one was planning to start Mike Gesicki or Greg Dulcich, so the only true impact of this particular bye week will be felt by Sam LaPorta‘s fantasy managers. With that necessary consideration out of the way, let’s pause to take a look at how our Week 5 calls went.
We faded Dalton Kincaid, and we’ll take our victory lap, thank you very much. The eventual TE34 saw fewer targets than his teammate Dawson Knox, who had a touchdown slip through his fingers on Monday night.
We did give a nod to three streaming options: Hockenson, Mike Gesicki, and Michael Mayer. Hockenson bowed out with the aforementioned concussion. Gesicki finished as TE20 and saw fewer looks since Ja’Marr Chase (concussion) and Tee Higgins (adductor) both ended up suiting up. Mayer didn’t see the secondary volume we expected based on his utilization in the weeks immediately prior. We’ll take our penance and aim to do better this time around.
Week 6 Tight Ends
Only three teams have allowed more points to opposing tight ends than the Arizona Cardinals. Even with Terrance Ferguson on IR, the Los Angeles Rams reverted to 13 personnel as a base offense for Monday Night Football. We saw passes thrown to Tyler Higbee and Davis Allen, and Colby Parkinson is also hanging around for fantasy managers in deeper leagues looking for a streaming option. The trick is predicting which of the three will be fortunate to cross the stripe. We like Higbee’s odds the best.
We’re also higher than consensus (TE16) on Colston Loveland, whom we view as a Top 10 option in a week in which Caleb Williams is expected to return. We’ll also give the nod to Dallas Goedert, a trusted security blanket for quarterback Jalen Hurts in recent years. Expect Goedert to shake off the rust from his first game back from injury last week and find the end zone against the Carolina Panthers.
Finally, our fade of the week: Pat Freiermuth. Yes, he had a big game last week…but it came against an Indianapolis Colts pass defense that has been embarrassingly horrific to date. One of the pitfalls of fantasy football is chasing points from prior weeks. That’s exactly what we’re doing if we’re scooping up Freiermuth and expecting him to produce like he did this past Sunday. Darnell Washington continues to enjoy a high rate of deployment, and wide receiver Germie Bernard is emerging as a dependable option for Aaron Rodgers. The Law of Averages does not smile upon Freiermuth in Week 6. –Drew DeLuca
