The List: Ranking Each Position for Week 5

Erik Smith releases his Week 5 fantasy football rankings in time for your weekly waiver decisions.

RB Ranks

  • I don’t fault you for scoffing at Miles Sanders at RB5 against Pittsburgh, but running back is a mess this week, and I just can’t quit his potential usage in an offense that absolutely needs him. I try not to abandon my preseason beliefs too early, and after just three games I’m not ready to quit Sanders in PPR leagues.
  • Mike Davis as the RB12 and James Robinson as the RB13, what a world! Davis has been legit good and gets a Falcons defense that can’t defend running backs in the passing game. And Robinson gets a Houston defense allowing the most rushing yards so far in 2020. Let’s roll with it while we can, they are RB1’s.

  • Running back gets downright scary after around RB20, so I’ve ranked less this week until we get some injuries sorted out. It feels like all of our mediocre running backs have tough matchups this week, with Melvin Gordon III playing the Patriots, Ronald Jones II playing the Bears, Joshua Kelley playing the Saints, David Montgomery playing the Buccaneers, and Myles Gaskin playing the 49ers–yuck. Hopefully you have options before them, and I would pivot to a wide receiver in the flex spot most of the time if these are your options.
  • After that, we are waiting for some injury news on some rankings. Will Zack Moss play? Will Ke’Shawn Vaughn have a role behind Jones if Leonard Fournette and LeSean McCoy sit out? Some of these backfields are hard to call on a Tuesday night.
