Arizona Cardinals

Quarterback

Joshua Dobbs (Sit)

Joshua Dobbs failed to score a single fantasy point in Week 1. Come Week 2, he put up numbers to make him the QB5 of the week. Dobbs protected the ball and had a pair of scores, one on the ground and one in the air. Don’t be fooled by Dobbs’s Week 2 performance, for here comes the defense of the Dallas Cowboys. This is Arizona’s third NFC East team to start their season, and it will be their most challenging yet. Leave Dobbs on the bench, for he is facing a team that has only given up 10 points so far this year. With 10 sacks, four forced fumbles, and five interceptions in two contests, Dallas’s defense has given quarterbacks fits for the first two weeks and it seems to be the same case for Week 3. Dobbs is best left on the bench.

Running Backs

James Connor (Low-End Flex), Keaontay Ingram (Sit)

James Connor has been an underrated fantasy running back for the past few years with the Cardinals, and this year he’s continued to be a solid choice for your fantasy lineups. Going from RB20 week one to an RB15 performance the following week, don’t expect this week to be a continued climb up. Connor is facing a defense that has only allowed 86 yards on the ground per game. With a team that has shut down both the running backs they faced this year, I would consider Connor to be no more than a Low-End FLEX option for week three.

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends

Marquise Brown (Start, FLEX/WR3 Upside), Michael Wilson (Sit), Rondale Moore (Sit), Zach Ertz (Sit)

There is only one player worth starting this week from the Cardinals pass catcher and that’s Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. In Brown’s first game with Joshua Dobbs, Brown was targeted five times, securing three receptions for 28 yards. Building on those numbers Brown doubled both his targets and receptions while even scoring his first touchdown of the year. Dallas’s secondary has been locked down besides one big play that was given up to the talented second-year man Garrett Wilson. Talented as he is, Brown is facing one of the best secondaries in the league and they will plan to shut down Arizona’s best pass catcher. The Hollywood lights may not shine too bright this week for Marquise Brown who should be viewed as no more than a Flex option with WR3 upside.

Dallas Cowboys

Quarterbacks

Dak Prescott (Start, QB1)

It’s Been tough to get a gauge on Dak Prescott this year. The main reason, Dak and the Cowboy’s offense has yet to face a challenge with how well the Dallas defense has been performing. In Week 1 we saw Dak have to do nothing for his team to win. In Week 2, Dak had to look no further than his WR1 in Ceedee Lamb in yet another game where the offense only had to game-manage but still was able to finish as a QB2. This week is another favorable match-up for Dak Prescott as he takes on the Cardinals who gave up a 20-0 lead at halftime last week and fell to the Giants 31-28. Dallas should be double-digit favorites this week and Dak should find no issue picking apart the Cardinals’ defense. Dak Prescott will be good for another week as a QB2, with QB1 upside if he can throw a few touchdowns early.

Running Backs

Tony Pollard (Start, RB1), Rico Dowdle (Sit)

Tony Pollard has had control of the backfield with long-time Cowboy Zeke Elliot no longer on the team and the fantasy managers who believed Pollard could handle being the main workhorse load have been rewarded with two weeks of RB1 play. Pollard is the RB4 on the year throughout the first two weeks and gets a juicy matchup. Dallas should have control of this game, and will most likely be playing with a lead. Pollard’s volume, plus his explosive play-making ability make him a must-start for week 3. Pollard is a high-end RB1 this week. Backup Rico Dowdle and Duce Vaughn can remain benched.

Wide Receivers/ Tight Ends

CeeDee Lamb (Start, WR1), Brandon Cooks  (Start, WR2, FLEX), Michael Gallup (Sit), Jake Ferguson (Start TE 2).

Ceedee Lamb was dominant last week against the Jets’ strong secondary. Lamb saw a team-high in targets with 13, converting to 11 receptions for 143 yards. Lamb failed to score and is still still looking for his first touchdown on the season. He is poised to be the main target in the Dallas passing game and should similar volume on a week-to-week basis. This week Lamb gets an Arizona defense that just gave up 30 second-half points to the New York Giants, as Daniel Jones threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns. Dallas may not be throwing as much in the 2nd half, but Lamb’s dominance in the Dallas WR room is crystal clear. Fire Ceedee Lamb up as a WR1 this week.

Brandin Cooks was ruled out of Week 2 and hasn’t had the chance to see what he has in this offense. Michael Gallup hasn’t produced any relevant fantasy numbers yet this season. In a game that is not expected to be a shootout, both Cooks and Gallup can be left off a starting roster.

Jake Ferguson had a much better game in Week 2 than he had in Week 1. Ferguson saw seven targets in week one but didn’t do much with them as he only hauled in two receptions for 11 yards. Last week his targets were cut in half but was able to find the endzone while matching his yardage total from Week 1. Ferguson is a touchdown-dependent start, and Dak has been very friendly with tight ends in his career. Jake Ferguson is one of the better dice rolls for the tight end position. You can comfortably start him as a TE2 with TE1 upside.

Great piece, but needs some clean-up. You have Thielen initially listed as a WR1 (he will never be a WR1 again), then go on to say he’s a WR2. Then you list Kenneth Walker as a Flex, then go on to say he is a RB1.

    • Drew DeLuca says:

Thank you for the feedback! The writer’s rationale for being high on Thielen is largely based on his matchup against one of the three worst corners in the league (per PFF). The write-up was cleaned up for clarity after the opportunity to do so was first brought to our attention. Thanks for reading!

and why are Pollard and CeeDee listed as both a 1 and a 2?
