What We Saw: Preseason Week 3

The WWS Team catches you up on the final weekend of the preseason

Rams @ Broncos

Final Score: Broncos 41, Rams 0

Broncos emasculate Rams in 41-point rout. Stetson Bennett was low on fiber throughout his time behind center and must have been told that he gets paid in fiber for bad throws. Stidham channeled Brady while Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Marvin Mims put a stamp on their roster spot and roles respectively.

Four Up

  • Jarrett Stidham – Where would the Patriots be right now if they could’ve gotten this out of Stidham?
  • Marvin Mims Jr. – Thrust into immediate fantasy relevance with Jeudy hurt and he goes out there and puts on a show
  • Albert O. – Monster game for the flashy TE
  • Lil’Jordan Humphrey -Potentially securing your roster spot earns you a spot here.

Three Down

  • Los – I mean come on
  • Angeles – I couldn’t just
  • Rams – pick three of them now could I.

Los Angeles Rams

| Preseason Week 1 | Preseason Week 2 |

Quarterback

Brett Rypien: 7/13, 67 yards, sack | 1 carry, 2 yards

Stetson Bennett: 4/9, 14 yards, 2 INT, sack

Bennett was inaccurate and made bad decisions pretty much anytime he threw the ball. It was an ugly showing for the rookie.

Notes

  • Threw a hospital ball that got his receiver clocked and the ball went right to a defender
  • Throws to the only player within 20 yards of the middle of the field, unfortunately that player was on the defense.

Running Back

Ronnie Rivers: 6 carries, 32 yards

Zach Evans: 7 carries, 23 yards | 1 target, 1 reception, 6 yards

Royce Freeman: 4 carries, 14 yards | 3 targets, 2 receptions, 7 yards

Wide Receiver/Tight End

Austin Trammell : 7 targets, 5 receptions, 55 yards

Braxton Burmeister: 3 targets, 2 receptions, 15 yards

Demarcus Robinson: 4 targets

0 catches on 4 targets is not going to endear you when Puka Nacua has already arrived, even if he had one of the worst QB performances of all time tossing the ball to him.

Denver Broncos

| Preseason Week 1 | Preseason Week 2 |

Quarterback

Jarrett Stidham: 17/28, 236 yards, TD, sack | 1 carry, 20 yards

Stidham channels the GOAT and massacres the Rams. Stidham came out sharp, decisive and willing to take a hit to make a throw. He routinely shredded the Rams like they were the Falcons. If Russ is not the answer this year I have confidence in Stidham to thrive in the Payton system.

Notes

  • Connects with Humphrey early to convert 3rd down on opening drive on a nice throw.
  • Threw one desperation throw that avoided a sack but put Mims in harm’s way.
  • Catches LB napping to connect with Albert O.
  • Takes massive shot while delivering a home run ball to Mims for an almost TD.
  • Struggled a bit on the next drive with completions.
  • Pulls a Mahomes en route to a long run for the 1st down that I didn’t think Stidham had the speed for.
  • Reads defense and gets easy TD to Albert O.

Missed Opportunities

  • Couldn’t capitalize on the big Mims catch settling for 3.

Ben DiNucci: 11/15, 117 yards, TD, sack | 4 carries, 22 yards

Running Back

Jaleel McLaughlin: 10 carries, 48 yards, TD

McLaughlin does a bit of everything in dominant Broncos win. Active in all aspects of the game, McLaughlin made roster cuts very tough.

Notes

  • Caps off dominant opening drive for Broncos with easy walk-in
  • Follows up drop with nice double cut back run for a 1st down.

Missed Opportunities

  • Couldn’t haul in screen that would’ve gone for double digit yards.

Dwayne Washington: 6 carries, 26 yards

Tyler Badie: 8 carries, 15 yards | 2 targets, 2 receptions, 7 yards

Tony Jones Jr.: 4 carries, 13 yards, TD | 1 target, 1 reception, 11 yards

Converts 4th and 1 for 5 yards and follows up with the 1 yard TD.

Wide Receiver/Tight End

Albert Okwuegbunam: 8 targets, 7 receptions, 109 yards, TD

Albert O. flashed his tools and frame throughout his time on the field.  Many forget that Albert O. was the fantasy darling before Dulcich came along and there is still time for him to fulfill those dreams.

Notes

  • Leaps over defender to get 1st down.
  • Showcases great jump ball ability to secure crucial 1st down on a stalling drive.
  • Nets an easy TD in the back corner.

Brandon Johnson: 4 targets, 2 receptions, 58 yards

Lil’Jordan Humphrey: 4 targets, 4 receptions, 57 yards

Humphrey drowns in volume as Broncos disintegrate the Rams. Humphrey likely has no fantasy relevance but he made the best possible case he could to make the team.

Notes

  • Starts fast out of the gate with 2 catches including a long catch and run for a 1st down.
  • Great job to snag a high throw from Stidham to take it down to 1st and goal.

Marvin Mims Jr.: 2 targets, 2 receptions, 51 yards

Mims embodies human dynamite, embarrassing Rams secondary. With the injury to Jeudy putting Week 1 and potentially beyond in jeopardy, Mims and his home run playmaking ability should fly up the draft boards.

Notes

  • Flashed insane speed on the not TD.
  • Makes great catch burning the defender for another not TD.

Missed Opportunities

  • Has surefire TD derailed by egregious and dangerous hurricane facemasking by the beaten defender.

Josh Hammond: 1 target, 1 reception, 3 yards
