New York Jets
Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers: Sit, QB2
Aaron Rodgers is no longer who he used to be. He faced a tough defense last week in the Denver Broncos, but overall, he has been out of rhythm for most of the season. It is hard to really remember the peak Rodgers we got to see in Green Bay. He is firmly off the fantasy football radar until further notice. In Week 5, he faces the league-leading defense in terms of interceptions, making him a strong sit recommendation in the first London game of the season.
Running Back
Breece Hall: Start, RB1
Braelon Allen: FLEX Option
Breece Hall had one of his worst games as a professional in Week 4. The road does not get much easier in Week 5 but don’t expect another dud from Hall. The occasional bad performance is not a needle mover or even a concern in most cases, so continue to fire Hall up as an RB1 with no hesitation. If there is anything that hurts Hall’s case, it is just how good Braelon Allen has been. Allen shouldn’t threaten Hall’s role as a lead back, but we could see him take away significant touches as he fills in as a Breece Hall lite in the Jets system. Allen can be regularly relied upon as a FLEX option thanks to his athleticism and efficiency, and he is the most valuable handcuff in all of fantasy football right now.
Wide Receiver
Garrett Wilson: Start, WR2
Allen Lazard: FLEX Option
Mike Williams: Sit
Let’s be honest: the Aaron Rodgers experiment has not gone as planned for Garrett Wilson and his fantasy managers. Wilson drops to my WR16 for Week 5, but there is hope on the horizon for the highly-touted receiver. The Vikings did allow the most passing yards of the season last week and have shown that while they can force turnovers, they can be prone to the big play, which is where Wilson can shine. Wilson has a couple of tough matchups, but from Week 8 on, he could have the breakout we have all been hoping for. Now for the other wide receivers. Allen Lazard continues to owe his career to Aaron Rodgers, but both he and Mike Williams are low-end FLEX options at best. I am avoiding them where I can and only allowing Lazard in my lineups if I am in dire straits with injuries and byes.
Tight End
Tyler Conklin: Sit
Tyler Conklin has produced two fantasy-relevant weeks in his last 22 appearances dating back to Week 1 of 2023. Don’t put him in your lineups this week.
Minnesota Vikings
Quarterback
Sam Darnold: Sit, QB2
I will admit I have missed on Sam Darnold in previous weeks. In Week 5, though, he faces the best defense he has seen all season. The Jets are allowing the second-fewest points to opposing quarterbacks this season. The good news for Darnold’s managers is that this will be his toughest test for the remainder of the season. The arrow is still pointing up even though he lands as my QB20 this week.
Running Back
Aaron Jones: Start, RB1
Ty Chandler: Sit
Aaron Jones is the only viable option at running back for the Vikings. Chandler is a fine handcuff but not someone I am holding on to in a pinch. The Jets provide a tough matchup, but the good news is that Jones is seeing more than enough volume to make him a viable option. He’s at the bottom of my RB1 tier this week (RB11).
Wide Receiver
Justin Jefferson: Start, WR1
Jordan Addison: FLEX Option
Jalen Nailor: Sit
Justin Jefferson has a tough matchup this week against one of the league’s best secondaries and its captain, Sauce Gardner. Jefferson is going to find a way to get his, but the ceiling is limited more than it would be in other weeks. The real knock for the Vikings comes to Jordan Addison, as he will find it difficult to find space against the Jets’ top-10 defense against opposing wide receivers. Due to bye weeks, Addison is a low-tier FLEX option, but he would need to find his way into the end zone to really pay off in Week 5. The same is true to a greater extent for Jalen Nailor, who has had a solid season in his own right but should see a decrease in target share with Addison’s return.
Tight End
Sit All
Without TJ Hockenson, there is no viable option for the Vikings at tight end. He should return later this season, but it will still take some time to ramp up before he gets back to his normal self.
