Dallas Cowboys
Quarterback
Dak Prescott: START, QB1
Dak Prescott owns the Commanders. He completed 21 of 30 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns in their Week 7 matchup. For his career, he has a 12-2 record with 30 touchdowns to five interceptions. The Cowboys remain one of the most pass-happy teams in the league, and Prescott remains a top 3 QB option nearly every week. Especially so against this abysmal Washington Commanders defense.
Running Back
Javonte Williams: START, Borderline RB1
Malik Davis: SIT
Jaydon Blue: SIT
Week 16’s game against the Chargers was the first time all season that Javonte Williams finished worse than the RB26 in PPR leagues this season, per Ian Hartitz on X. He’s in a prime position to bounce back against a Commanders defense that’s allowed the fourth most PPR points per game to running backs. Williams had one of his two games with over 100 rushing yards against Washington in Week 7 and is locked in as a borderline RB1 for Christmas Day.
Wide Receiver
CeeDee Lamb: START, WR1
George Pickens: START, Borderline WR1
Ryan Flournoy: SIT
Both CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens feasted in Week 7’s meeting against Washington. Lamb is a set-and-forget, while Pickens broke out of a mini-slump last week against the Chargers, going for 130 yards and a touchdown. It’s his fifth game with 130+ yards this season, tied with Puka Nacua for the most in the league. Start both stud receivers with confidence.
Tight End
Jake Ferguson: START, Mid-Range TE1
The return of Lamb has squashed Jake FerguSZN. Ferguson has zero top-five TE weekly finishes and only two top-12 finishes over the last seven weeks. He hasn’t scored since Week 11, and has totalled just five catches for 35 yards on eight targets over the last two weeks. But he gets the porous Commanders defense, who have been terrible against everyone, allowing the third most PPR points per game to TEs. Fire him up as a solid TE1 on Christmas.
Defense/Special Teams
Dallas Cowboys: START (Against Josh Johnson)
There’s a real possibility Washington starts journeyman Josh Johnson on Christmas… The Cowboys’ defense is still bad, but Johnson looked horrendous in relief of Mariota last week.
Washington Commanders
Quarterback
Marcus Mariota: STREAMER, Startable in Superflex (If he plays)
Josh Johnson: SIT
Marcus Mariota remains absent from Tuesday’s practice and is trending in the wrong direction to play on Christmas. Josh Johnson last started an NFL game for the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16 of the 2021 season, and actually wasn’t bad, completing 28 of 40 passes for 304 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Before that? Week 17 of the 2018 season with the Washington Commanders. That one didn’t go so well, completing 12 of 27 passes for 91 yards and an interception. Forget this QB room existed for a day.
Running Back
Chris Rodriguez Jr.: FLEX, RB3
Jacory Croskey-Merritt: SIT
Jeremy McNichols: SIT
The Cowboys’ rush defense has been much improved since acquiring Quinnen Williams. And the Commanders’ backfield has been a classic three-headed monster recently. Chris Rodriguez still sees the bulk of the carries, with “Bill” seeing more work after his breakout game in Week 15, while Jeremy McNichols handles the pass-down duties. With the QB uncertainty, this is an avoid.
Wide Receiver
Terry McLaurin: START, WR2
Treylon Burks: SIT
Deebo Samuel: FLEX, WR3
Terry McLaurin has looked great since returning in Week 13. He leads them with a 22.4% target share in that time, with Zach Ertz being the next closest at 20.3%, and he’s out for the season, as many know. Deebo Samuel has three straight games with less than 45 receiving yards, and just isn’t a very exciting fantasy play at this point in the season. The QB situation is depressing, and it’s tough to trust any WR not named McLaurin on Christmas Day.
Tight End
John Bates: SIT
Ben Sinnott: SIT
Keep an eye on Ben Sinnott for your Dynasty leagues. For the fantasy championship? Not so much.
Defense/Special Teams
Washington Commanders: SIT
Nope.
