Buffalo Bills
Quarterback
Josh Allen: START, QB1
Yes, you’re starting Josh Allen. Even against the Texans. Even if there’s a fire.
Running Back
James Cook III: START, RB1
Ty Johnson: SIT
Ray Davis: SIT
Yes, you’re starting James Cook III. Even against the Texans. Even if there’s a really big fire.
Wide Receiver
DJ Moore: START, WR3
Keon Coleman: SIT
Khalil Shakir: SIT
What a brutal matchup for DJ Moore‘s first game as a member of the Bills. He’s startable in fantasy every week as Josh Allen‘s top target, but against the Texans, both his floor and ceiling are much lower than in most matchups. If you have an alternative option with a better matchup this week (say, Quentin Johnston or Marvin Harrison Jr.), I wouldn’t blame you for waiting to deploy DJM.
Tight End
Dalton Kincaid: START, TE1
You could do a lot worse than Dalton Kincaid in Week 1. But in a game with a low implied game total against one of the league’s top defenses, both the ceiling and floor are low.
Defense/Special Teams
Buffalo Bills: STREAMER
The Bills defense isn’t great, but the matchup sure is.
Houston Texans
Quarterback
C.J. Stroud: SIT
Buffalo held opposing quarterbacks to 107.2 yards per game, the lowest in the league, and just 1.12 passing touchdowns per game, sixth lowest. C.J. Stroud was also outplayed by Davis Mills last season, so there’s that too.
Running Back
David Montgomery: START, RB2
Woody Marks: FLEX, RB3
I tried my darndest to figure out a way to fit David Montgomery into RB1 territory this week, but it just wasn’t happening. But Buffalo should set up Monty to start his Houston career giving the enemy the Texas two-step; the Bills gave up the fifth most rushing yards and most rushing touchdowns per game to running backs last season. Woody Marks makes for a solid FLEX play with the good matchup as well, but his workload will likely be lower than Monty’s.
Wide Receiver
Nico Collins: START, WR2
Kayshon Boutte: SIT
Jaylin Noel: SIT
Poor Nico Collins. Buffalo held opposing offenses to the fewest passing yards per game last season and opposing receivers to a meager 6.9 yards per target. Oh, and his quarterback is CJ Stroud. That sucks too. Nico is enough of a bona fide stud where you’re rolling him out regardless of the matchup (especially in Week 1), but the other pass-catching options in Houston should be avoided.
Tight End
Dalton Schultz: STREAMER
The epitome of tHe gLoB. (see Henry, Hunter)
Defense/Special Teams
Houston Texans: START
The closest thing to a must-start D/ST there is.
