Tennessee Titans
Quarterback
Cameron Ward: SIT
A likely low-scoring game and the lowest implied team total at the time of writing, the Titans’ first overall pick isn’t startable in any format in Week 1, and likely the foreseeable future. Cam Ward is the future in Tennessee. Starting his career against arguably the best defense in the league is a tough draw for the rook.
Running Back
Tony Pollard: START, RB2
Julius Chestnut: SIT
With Tyjae Spears starting the season on the IR due to an ankle sprain, Tony Pollard will stay a high-floor volume-based RB2 for the first four games. His upside is limited, but few offer his volume security.
Wide Receiver
Calvin Ridley: START, WR3
Tyler Lockett: SIT
Elic Ayomanor: SIT
Unfortunately for those of us who heavily invested in post-hype sleeper Calvin Ridley this draft season, his Week 1 involves shadow coverage from reigning defensive player of the year Pat Surtain. You’re still starting Ridley, but he’s a borderline WR3 for Week 1. No other Titans receivers are worthy of starting consideration in fantasy.
Tight End
Chig Okonkwo: SIT
A favorite breakout candidate in the fantasy community for what seems like six years, Chig Okokwo isn’t startable in any format.
Denver Broncos
Quarterback
Bo Nix: START, Borderline QB1
I’ll probably get some flak for this take, but I’m not opposed to benching Bo Nix this week in 1QB leagues. One of the lowest projected point totals facing a team that likely struggles to score, there’s a very real scenario where Denver doesn’t have to do a whole lot on offense to win this game. To be fair, that’s taking a stroll down narrative street, which is always a dangerous game to play. To be clear, I am not saying bench Bo Nix. But if you roster him and say, Trevor Lawrence, I’m starting TLaw.
Running Back
J.K. Dobbins: START, Borderline RB2
R.J. Harvey: START, Borderline RB2
Jaleel McLaughlin: SIT
The Broncos’ backfield opens the season as a conundrum we won’t be able to figure out until we see what Sean Payton has up his sleeve. But both J.K. Dobbins and R.J. Harvey are startable, and could be a revival of the Mark Ingram/Alvin Kamara days of dual startable running backs on a Payton offense.
Wide Receiver
Courtland Sutton: START, Borderline WR2
Marvin Mims Jr.: SIT
Troy Franklin: SIT
Pat Bryant: SIT
Courtland Sutton is the only Broncos receiver worth starting in Week 1. He should have another successful season as Nix’s top target, but facing the Titans means that passing volume could be low in this game. I have Sutton ranked as my WR24 this week. Until one of Marvin Mims Jr, Troy Franklin, or Pat Bryant emerges as the clear-cut WR2, it’ll be a frustrating game of “guess whose week it is” that will end in frustration and regret more often than not.
Tight End
Evan Engram: START, TE1
The potential for low passing volume for Devener pushed Evan Engram to a borderline TE1 for Week 1, but he still has top-five season-long upside if Sean Payton truly intends to make him the Broncos’ “Joker” player.
