Detroit Lions
Quarterback
Jared Goff: SIT
Jared Goff has thrown for less than 250 yards in each of his four trips to Lambeau Field as a Lion, throwing a total of four touchdowns. I’m looking for anybody else to start over Goff in Week 1, including Michael Penix Jr, Bryce Young, and even Daniel Jones. Detroit will likely aim to win this game through its ground attack.
Running Back
Jahmyr Gibbs: START, RB1
David Montgomery: START, RB2
You start Jahmyr Gibbs every week. You start David Montgomery most weeks. With a projected point total close to 50, this is one of those weeks. The availability of Micah Parsons also has implications on the upside of the Lions’ backfield, and if he plays, it’ll slide Monty down just a few spots in my rankings.
Wide Receiver
Amon-Ra St. Brown: START, WR1
Jameson Williams: START, WR3
Isaac TeSlaa: SIT
You’re not benching either of Amon-Ra St Brown or Jameson Williams, but considering Goff’s history of struggles playing in Green Bay, they’ll likely need to catch a touchdown to have a productive fantasy week. The Sun God at least has one of the most stable floors in fantasy with his elite target volume. Exciting rookie Isaac TeSlaa is best left on the bench, but he’s a fun stash.
Tight End
Sam LaPorta: START, TE1
Despite the competition for targets, Sam LaPorta remains a weekly starting fantasy tight end. There may be some wounds with his slow start last season for some, but he was a top 6 TE in four of the team’s last six games in 2024.
Green Bay Packers
Quarterback
Jordan Love: START, QB1
I love Jordan Love (I’m not even sorry) for Week 1 in a great matchup and potential shootout against division rival Detroit. Even with a banged-up receiving corps, there’s enough depth in Green Bay with newcomer Matthew Golden for Love to put up video game numbers.
Running Back
Josh Jacobs: START, Borderline RB1
Underrated nearly every year, Josh Jacobs handles enough volume to overcome a tough matchup and remain an RB1 for Week 1.
Wide Receiver
Matthew Golden: START, WR3
Jayden Reed: FLEX, WR5
Romeo Doubs: FLEX, WR5
Dontayvion Wicks: SIT
Jayden Reed is expected to play through a Jones fracture suffered in training camp, but even if he suits up, his upside will be limited. Matthew Golden is the main beneficiary, and if Dontavion Wicks is unable to play, Romeo Doubs gets a bump as well. Keep an eye out for our Week 1 rankings update this Saturday to see where each of them falls based on who’s in and who’s out. The sheer number of quality pass catchers in this receiving corps makes it tough to predict the best options week to week, so we’ll be sure to monitor if any players stick out in the early goings of the season.
Tight End
Tucker Kraft: START, TE1
Tucker Kraft is a borderline TE1 who could jump to must-start status if both Jayden Reed and Dontavion Wicks miss Week 1.
