New York Jets
Quarterback
Tyrod Taylor: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)
Justin Fields: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)
Although it hasn’t been officially announced at the time of writing, the writing on the wall says that Tyrod Taylor is likely the Jets starter for at least Week 8. I would much prefer to avoid whoever the starter winds up being between Taylor and Justin Fields, but with Cincy top 10 in points allowed to quarterbacks and the abundance of fantasy viable quarterbacks on bye and/or hurt, either would be a suitable Superflex start if you’re in a pinch.
Running Back
Breece Hall: START, RB2
Isaiah Davis: SIT
Coming off back-to-back games with fewer than 60 rushing yards and under double-digit fantasy points, you’d expect Breece Hall to be a sit. But the Bengals are the best fantasy matchup for opposing running backs. Sometimes it really is that simple.
Wide Receiver
Garrett Wilson: START, WR2
Josh Reynolds: SIT
Arian Smith: SIT
It doesn’t matter if it’s Justin Fields or Tyrod Taylor under center for the Jets. If Garrett Wilson is active, he’s starting for your fantasy team.
It doesn’t matter if it’s Justin Fields or Tyrod Taylor under center for the Jets. No other Jets wide receiver should be rostered, let alone start for your fantasy team.
Tight End
Mason Taylor: START, TE1
It was encouraging to see Mason Taylor‘s targets jump back to five after seeing a singular target in Week 6. He didn’t do much with them, but the Bengals are the most fantasy-friendly matchup for tight ends, making Taylor a Week 8 TE1 with or without the return of Garrett Wilson.
Defense/Special Teams
New York Jets: SIT
Despite being an overall solid defensive unit, the Jets’ abysmal offense continues to leave the defense at a disadvantage, keeping them a DST you want to avoid in fantasy.
Cincinnati Bengals
Quarterback
Joe Flacco: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)
Full disclosure, I wasn’t a believer in Joe Flacco with the Bengals due to their atrocious O-line, but boy has he proven me wrong. Flacco thinks he’s a fine streamer against the Jets, especially with the likelihood that Sauce Gardner misses the game. But don’t force him into your lineup. The Jets have been stingy to quarterbacks outside of the four touchdowns thrown by Aaron Rodgers in Week 1 and Dak Prescott in Week 5. They’ve yet to allow 250 or more passing yards and have held four of seven quarterbacks under 200 yards.
Running Back
Chase Brown: START, Borderline RB2
Because everything’s made up and the points don’t matter, Chase Brown had 108 yards on 11 carries, his best game of the season and first over 50 rushing yards against the Steelers, who hadn’t allowed a 100-yard rusher since Week 2. I’m not convinced after one uber-efficient game for a back who’s yet to finish a season with better than a 4.3 yards per carry. That being said, Brown doesn’t have any real competition for touches and has a juicy rest of season schedule. The matchup isn’t great against the Jets, but based on volume, Brown is a borderline RB2.
Wide Receiver
Ja’Marr Chase: START, WR1
Tee Higgins: START, WR2
Andrei Iosivas: SIT
You don’t need me to tell you to start Ja’Marr Chase, but did you know he grew up a New Orleans Saints fan? He’s from Louisiana and grew up watching the “golden era” of the Saints with Drew Brees. Tee Higgins‘ target share is virtually the same since Joe Flacco became the Bengals’ starting QB, but his production has significantly improved. In two Flacco-led weeks, Higgins is averaging 14.4 yards per target and 2.0 yards per route run. Slightly better than the 4.6 yards per target, 0.8 yards per route run in Jake Browning’s three starts. The Jets have been a difficult matchup for opposing wide receivers, but WR2s have flourished. Everyone could eat on Sunday, with Sauce Gardner expected to miss after suffering a concussion in Week 7.
Tight End
Noah Fant: ThE gLoB
I’ve referenced this a few times, but I’m going to make “The TE Glob”. An esteemed member of “ThE gLoB” is among the abundance of tight ends whose stat line you can expect to look something like this: 3-5 targets, 2-4 catches, 40ish yards, and double-digit fantasy points if they happen to fall into the endzone. Noah Fant, welcome to ThE gLoB.
Defense/Special Teams
Cincinnati Bengals: STREAMER (If Garrett Wilson Out)
Make no mistakes about it. The Bengals defense is #notgood. But facing what the Jets are trotting out on offense, they’re a desperation sleeper. If Garrett Wilson somehow suits up this week, I’d say sit Cincy. But if he’s out, they’re startable regardless of whether it’s Taylor or Fields under center for the Jets.
