San Francisco 49ers
Quarterback
Brock Purdy: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex if Active)
Mac Jones: SIT
It’s shaping up to be at least one more Mac Jones week for the Niners, and he’s been widely mediocre since his Thursday night thrashing of the Rams in Week 5. Houston is the worst fantasy matchup for quarterbacks, and if it is indeed McCorkle once again under center for San Fran, he’s best left on the bench. If by some miracle Brock Purdy does suit up, he’s startable in Superflex, but don’t force him into your lineup.
Running Back
Christian McCaffrey: START, RB1
Brian Robinson Jr.: SIT
You don’t need me to tell you to start Christian McCaffrey, but did you know he grew up a Denver Broncos fan? His dad, Ed McCaffrey, was a star for the team, and Christian has said he and his brothers would play “Madden” as the Broncos just to throw to their dad.
Wide Receiver
Ricky Pearsall: Likely OUT
Kendrick Bourne: FLEX, WR4
Jauan Jennings: FLEX, WR4
The downward trend of production from Jones has done the same for his favorite target, Kendrick Bourne. After back-to-back 19-plus-point performances over Weeks 5 and 6, Bourne managed just two catches for 14 yards against Atlanta. Jauan Jennings has scored over eight points just once this season, and is barely startable as a flex. Ricky Pearsall still isn’t practicing and is trending towards missing yet again. You may have no other choice than to start Bourne or Jennings with all the byes, but if you have other options, go with them.
Tight End
George Kittle: START, TE1
Even with the goose egg in his return from injury and a less-than-ideal matchup, there is no way on God’s green earth you can not start George Kittle on National Tight End Day.
Defense/Special Teams
San Francisco 49ers: START
Houston has scored fewer than 20 points in four of six games, and less than 10 twice.
Houston Texans
Quarterback
C.J. Stroud: SIT
C.J. Stroud put together back-to-back respectable outings against Tennessee and Baltimore before heading into Houston’s bye, but he struggled mightily on Monday night against Seattle. San Fran has held four of seven quarterbacks faced to one or fewer passing touchdowns and three to under 200 passing yards. Stroud is barely a Superflex start in a good matchup. He shouldn’t start anywhere this week.
Running Back
Woody Marks: FLEX, RB3
Nick Chubb: FLEX, RB4
I still believe Woody Marks is the long-term answer in the Texans’ backfield, but you can’t trust him as a weekly starter until we see consistent usage. He’s a viable flex considering his usage in the pass game. Nick Chubb is a desperation flex who needs to get into the end zone to score double-digit fantasy points.
Wide Receiver
Nico Collins: Likely OUT due to concussion
Xavier Hutchinson: SIT
Christian Kirk: SIT
Jayden Higgins: SIT
Jaylin Noel: SIT
With Nico Collins nearly a lock to miss Week 8, there are no Texans receivers worth starting for fantasy. Rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel are worth stashing, but with Stroud’s struggles and the awful matchup, you can’t start them.
Tight End
Dalton Schultz: STREAMER
Coming off a 10-target, nice reception game and back-to-back double-digit fantasy point totals, Dalton Schultz would be a decent streamer if Nico Collins were to fail to play in Week 8.
Defense/Special Teams
Houston Texans: START
The Texans are one of the best defensive units in the league, holding opponents to a league-low 14.7 points per game and ranking in the top five in turnovers.
