Green Bay Packers
Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers (Start, QB2), Jordan Love (Start, QB2)
Both head coach Matt LaFleur and quarterback Aaron Rodgers said on Wednesday that they expect Rodgers to play on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, despite injuries to both his ribs and right thumb. He has yet to practice this week, so if you plan on starting Rodgers monitor practice reports closely.
If the Packers do decide to give Rodgers the week off with their bye week approaching in Week 14, then Jordan Love will draw his second career start. The Bears have given up the 15th-most passing yards in the league, with an average of 206.1 passing yards allowed this season. This puts them in the middle of the pack and the Pack should be able to get in the middle of this secondary, regardless of which quarterback starts.
Running Back
Aaron Jones (Start, RB2), A.J. Dillon (Start, Flex)
Aaron Jones should be an excellent start this week as the Chicago Bears run defense has given up the sixth-most rushing yards per game (143.9). If A.J. Dillon were to miss Week 13, Jones should be moved up into RB1 territory as the only real concern here is his usage. The Packers have inexplicably prioritized getting Dillon touches over Jones at times this season, despite Jones leading this backfield with 5.3 Yards Per Carry (YPC) and 5.7 Yards Per Touch (YPT). Dillon on the other hand has only put up 4.2 YPC and 4.6 YPT and left last week’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles with a quadriceps injury. He was limited in practice on Wednesday and the injury should be considered especially concerning given that he is known around Green Bay as ‘Quadzilla’ and ‘The Quadfather’.
Wide Receivers/Tight Ends
Christian Watson (Start, WR3), Allen Lazard (Start, Flex), Randall Cobb (Sit, Flex), Romeo Doubs (Sit), Robert Tonyan (Sit, TE2)
Christian Watson has been on fire recently, going 12/20-265-6 over the Packers’ last three games after Romeo Doubs suffered a high-ankle sprain. That stretch includes two receptions on three targets for 78 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown from Love in the fourth quarter last week against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chicago Bears have allowed the 14th-fewest fantasy points to the wide receiver this season, which means that Watson should find himself seeing plenty of opportunities to contribute yet again this week.
Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb are currently the secondary options in this passing game. Against the Eagles defense last week, Lazard posted his worst performance since Week 2 with only two catches on three targets for 24 receiving yards and his production has been limited over the past three weeks since Watson has taken over the WR1 role in Green Bay. Meanwhile, Cobb had only two receptions on four targets for 19 receiving yards last week and his fantasy value was saved by the fact that he managed to get into the endzone. Given the downtick in volume, both Lazard and Cobb should be considered low-end flex options this week.
Doubs got in a limited practice on Wednesday for the first time since Week 9. He could play this week against the Bears, but the Packers have a bye week in Week 14 and little incentive to rush the rookie wide receiver back. Between the uncertainty around Rodgers’ status, the emergence of Watson, and the recent return of Cobb, the deck is stacked against him having a big week, even if he does play.
Robert Tonyan has only recorded 50+ receiving yards once this season and his lone touchdown came back in Week 4. At this point, his only real strength is the fact that he plays at the tight end position.
Chicago Bears
Quarterback
Justin Fields (Start, QB1), Trevor Siemian (Sit)
Justin Fields missed last week with a sprained left shoulder but managed to get in a limited practice on Wednesday, while Trevor Siemian started last week and did not practice due to an oblique injury. If Fields is able to start against the Green Bay Packers, then he could easily wind up as a QB1 this week. The Packers have given up the most rushing yards in the league (1857) and opposing teams have taken notice as the defense has also seen the second-most rush attempts (374). Fields had 100+ rushing yards in two of the last three games that he’s played and Green Bay’s poor run defense could be the perfect recipe for him to have another huge week.
In case Fields and Siemian both wind up out in Week 13, it’s worth noting that the Bears signed Tim Boyle from the Detriot Lions’ practice squad this week, as he attempts to start for every team in the NFC North, and Nathan Peterman is also a quarterback with a Chicago address.
Running Back
David Montgomery (Start, RB2), Darrynton Evans (Sit, Flex), Tristan Ebner (Sit)
The Green Bay Packers have allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to running backs which should set up David Montgomery quite nicely for a productive week. Montgomery has struggled at times to be efficient on the ground with only 3.97 YPC this season and post less than 4.0 YPC in more than half of his games this season. Still, the Packers’ weak run defense and a lack of options behind him in this offense should keep him comfortably in RB2 territory.
Darrynton Evans should be a low-end flex option against Green Bay, especially if Fields does miss this game. His value hinges on just how much volume he will get in Chicago’s backfield, making him an intriguing boom-or-bust play in Week 13.
Wide Receivers/Tight Ends
Chase Claypool (Sit, Flex), Equanimeous St. Brown (Sit), Dante Pettis (Sit), Cole Kmet (Sit)
Darnell Mooney is out for the season with an ankle injury, leaving the door open for Chase Claypool to lead this team in targets. However, Claypool is likely best left on your benches in all but the deepest of leagues. He hasn’t scored a touchdown since Week 6, his only touchdown of the season in fact, when he was still with the Pittsburgh Steelers and he’ll probably have to wait at least one more week to record his first score with the Chicago Bears. The Green Bay Packers have the fourth-best passing defense, allowing only 187.8 passing yards per game, and cornerback Jaire Alexander should lead this secondary as it shuts down the Bears’ passing game.
Equanimeous St. Brown, Dante Pettis, and Cole Kmet will all be hard-pressed to make an impact on the field this week against this Packers pass defense. The possibility that one of Boyle or Peterman will make the start at quarterback in Week 13 has the rest of this receiving corps firmly locked in the sit category.
Thought on Pats DST this week over Minnesota? Could be 4-5 sacks and a couple TO’s no?
I’m sitting the Pats D against Buffalo. I would rather play Minn
got to start one if Fields can’t go – Marcus Mariota or Kenny Pickett
They are so close. I will go with Pickett. Pitts D is giving up the fewest points to quarterbacks while ATL is giving up the 10th most. Both Qbs have some rushing upside. Pickett has 265 passing attempts and Mariota has 276 yet he has played 11 games and Pickett had played 8 but really only 7, higher volume for Pickett and better matchup
You have Davante listed as a WR2 but describe him as a high-end WR1. Which one is it?
He should be a WR1. I updated the article
