Philadelphia Eagles
Quarterback
Jalen Hurts: START, QB1
You don’t need me to tell you to start Jalen Hurts, but did you know he was college teammates with CeeDee Lamb at Oklahoma? In their single season together, Hurts finished as the Heisman Trophy runner-up while Lamb was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, which is given to the nation’s best receiver.
Running Back
Saquon Barkley: START, RB1 *Limited Practice Tuesday
Will Shipley: SIT *FLEX, RB3 if Barkley OUT
A.J. Dillon: SIT
Tank Bigsby: SIT
You don’t need me to tell you to start Saquon Barkley, but did you know he was college teammates with Chris Godwin at Penn State? Both were offensive stars on the 2016 Nittany Lions team that won the Big Ten Championship.
Wide Receiver
A.J. Brown: START, WR2
Devonta Smith: START, Borderline WR2
Jahan Dotson: SIT
The Eagles tried to force-feed their disgruntled receivers in Week 6, and it cost Philly their first loss. DeVonta Smith was the main beneficiary of the passing shift and had his first game over 100 yards this season. But A.J. Brown was quiet again, catching five of eight targets for 42 yards. Brown needs to turn that volume into efficiency quickly, and against a Giants defense allowing the third most points to opposing wide receivers, he’s in line to do just that. I expect a get-right game for Brown, but the possibility of another low passing volume day has AJB as a high-end WR2 with Smith as a low-end WR2. One positive trend? The Eagles had the highest pass rate over expected in Week 5 among all NFL teams, perhaps signifying an intention to get their disgruntled receivers the ball more.
Tight End
Dallas Goedert: STREAMER, TE1/2 Borderline
Dallas Goedert scored his fourth touchdown in three games versus the Broncos, but only caught 3 passes on 9 targets for 19 yards. He’s scored double-digit fantasy points every game played this season, but the receiving touchdowns are completely unsustainable with the low volume.
Defense/Special Teams
Philadelphia Eagles: START
The Giants are one of five teams scoring under 18 points per game and tied for the fourth most giveaways with 8.
New York Giants
Quarterback
Jaxson Dart: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)
Rookie Jaxson Dart unsurprisingly struggled a tad more in his second career start and first without stud receiver Malik Nabers. He faces a tall task taking on Philly, who’s held quarterbacks to a 58% completion percentage this season, second lowest in the league. Dart likely lost another deep target in Darius Slayton, who’s presumably set to miss the game after leaving Week 5 with a hamstring issue. Dart’s rushing prowess helps offset his meager passing numbers and maintain Streamer and back-end Superflex status.
Running Back
Cam Skattebo: START, RB2
Tyrone Tracy: SIT
For the second straight week, rookie running back Cam Skattebo averaged under four yards per carry and failed to score. But inefficient rushing attempts don’t matter as much when you’re tied for the team lead in targets. Skattebo was heavily involved with 15 carries for 59 yards, but made his mustard on his 6 catches for 45 yards. Philly has been friendly to opposing running backs, allowing the eight most fantasy points with an average of five catchers per game over their last three. Skattebo’s volume positions him firmly in RB2 status, regardless of matchup.
*UPDATE*
It appears that Tyrone Tracy will return from a multi-week absence due to a shoulder injury and play on Thursday night against the Eagles. I still expect Skattebo to get the bulk of the work, but Tracy’s return drops him back to a borderline RB2 with not quite as safe a floor. Tracy is worth rostering because it’s still unclear how the workload will be divided between the two. But my money’s on this guy.
Wide Receiver
Wan’Dale Robinson: FLEX, WR4
Darius Slayton: Expect OUT with Hamstring Injury
Jalin Hyatt: SIT
The good? In two starts by Dart, Wan’Dale Robinson is averaging six targets per game. The not so good? Robinson is averaging three catches for 22 yards in those same games. Already down Malik Nabers and likely Darius Slayton versus the Eagles, Robinson’s hefty target share could get another bump. But with Dart’s limitations as a passer and a difficult matchup, Robinson is nothing more than a FLEX. In the likely scenario that Slayton is out Thursday, Jalin Hyatt would be the Giants’ latest attempt at a deep threat, but is best left on benches, if not the waiver wire.
Tight End
Theo Johnson: STREAMER, Mid-range TE2
The Giants may have found their new red zone threat in Theo Johnson. He posted six catches on seven targets for just 33 yards, but delivered two touchdowns and scored in his second straight game. Johnson caught all three of Jaxson Dart’s career passing touchdowns. Johnson is the ultimate boom/bust TE streamer who should stay involved near the end zone, but likely needs a score to surpass double-digit fantasy points.
Defense/Special Teams
New York Giants: SIT
The Giants’ defense gave up an 87-yard touchdown pass to Spencer Rattler. Need I say more?
