Sit or Start recommendations for EVERY fantasy-relevant player in Week 6 of the 2025 NFL season!

Game Info

Kickoff: Sunday, October 12, 2025, 4:25 p.m. ET

Location: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, FL

Network: CBS

San Francisco 49ers

Quarterback

Brock Purdy: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)*
Mac Jones: SIT, QB2 (Startable in Superflex)

Mac Jones may be giving the 49ers brass second thoughts about giving Brock Purdy that fat contract. Jones has a 6:1 touchdown to interception ratio in three starts and led the 49ers to an upset win over the Rams with a skeleton crew on offense (plus some guy named Christian McCaffrey). I’d prefer to avoid him in 1QB, but the Return of the Mac is easily a Superflex starter if Purdy misses again, which is extremely likely.

Running Back

Christian McCaffrey: START, RB1
Brian Robinson Jr.: SIT

You don’t need me to tell you to start Christian McCaffrey, but did you know he was college teammates with Solomon Thomas at Stanford? Both players were top-10 picks in the 2017 NFL Draft, with Thomas going No. 3 and McCaffrey going No. 8.

Wide Receiver

Ricky Pearsall: START, WR3
Jauan Jennings: START, WR3
Kendrick Bourne: START, WR3

With Purdy, Jauan Jennings, and Ricky Persall all looking likely to miss Week 6, the Jones-to-Kendrick Bourne connection lives for at least another week. Rarely does the “he has to throw to somebody, right?” mantra actually work, but he has here. Bourne absolutely ate targets from Jones, catching 10 of 11 for 142 against the Rams. He’s set to feast once more and makes for a high-end WR3 if Jennings and Pearsall are both out.

Tight End

Jake Tonges: STREAMER

Pearsall and Jennings are trending in the wrong direction after missing practice on Wednesday. If just one of the two misses, Jake Tonges is on the streaming radar after catching seven passes and a touchdown against the Rams.

Defense/Special Teams

San Francisco 49ers: SIT

Tampa Bay has just two turnovers so far this season and is averaging close to 33 points per game over their last three.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Quarterback

Baker Mayfield: START, QB1

It hasn’t been pretty, but Baker Mayfield is currently the QB3 on the season and has thrown multiple touchdowns in all but one game. He’s chipping in some rushing yards as well, and thrown 10 touchdowns compared to just one interception. Even in a bottom-10 matchup against the 49ers, Mayfield is playing well enough to maintain QB1 status.

Running Back

Bucky Irving
Rachaad White: START, RB2
Sean Tucker: SIT

Bucky Irving has yet to practice at the time of writing, lining up Rachaad White to make his second consecutive start. He made the most of his opportunity in Week 5, despite a mediocre day on the ground. White rushed for just 41 yards on 14 carries, but punched it into the end zone twice and chipped in four catches for 30 yards. He’s a volume-based RB2 as long as Irving remains sidelined. Sean Tucker has explosiveness, but isn’t seeing enough volume to consider starting even with Bucky on the shelf.

Wide Receiver

Mike Evans
Emeka Egbuka: START, WR1
Chris Godwin Jr.: SIT
Sterling Shepard: SIT

You don’t need me to tell you to start Emeka Egbuka, but did you know he was college teammates with Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba at Ohio State? That legendary 2021 wide receiver room was so stacked that, including Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr., it produced five future first-round NFL Draft picks. Chris Godwin has unsurprisingly looked like a shell of his former self as he works his way back to game shape after his devastating ankle injury. I didn’t draft him anywhere, and I wouldn’t start him anywhere. If you can trade him based on name value for a half-eaten ham sandwich, do it. I’d much rather start Sterling Shepard at this point, who’s scored double-digit fantasy points in two of his last three games. Both are sitting facing a Niners defense that’s allowed just one 100-yard receiver and just three touchdowns to the position all year.

Tight End

Cade Otton: SIT

Despite a decent game against the Seahawks and his first with double-digit points this season, Cade Otton isn’t in consideration for fantasy.

Defense/Special Teams

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: SIT

The Bucs’ defense has given up 30-plus points in back-to-back games.
