Quarterback
Jordan Love: START, QB1
The average stat line for a starting quarterback against the Detroit Lions so far this season: 29 of 42, 320 yards, 2.8 TD, and 0.6 INT, five carries for 22 yards.
The amazing thing is that it’s not just the ceiling a matchup with the Lions affords you. Literally every single starting quarterback has thrown at least 249 yards and 2 touchdowns against them.
Yeah, you’re starting Jordan Love.
Running Back
Josh Jacobs: START, RB2 (If Active)
Pierre Strong Jr: SIT
Marshawn Lloyd: SIT
At the time of writing, it was still uncertain if Josh Jacobs would play in Week 7 despite being removed from the commissioner’s exempt list. Green Bay gets a one-game roster exemption for Jacobs, meaning if they decided to hold him out, he wouldn’t count against this week’s official roster. If Jacobs is active, I’m starting him in all formats. Detroit hasn’t given up much to the position, but with the implied game total pushing 55, he’s worth the risk. Pierre Strong Jr. and Marshawn Lloyd are not, however. They’re both sits for me with or without Jacobs active. Strong has a solid performance in Week 6, but not enough for me to be willing to risk starting him.
Wide Receiver
Christian Watson: START, WR1
Matthew Golden: START, WR1
Savion Williams: SIT
Is there a more productive wide receiver duo in the NFL right now? You’re no doubt starting both Christian Watson and Matthew Golden in fantasy. Watson’s kinda like Uber. When it works, it’s near elite. When it doesn’t, you wonder how you got stuck sitting beside a shirtless guy who smells like moldy cheese. As for Golden? He’s a little ‘mo Waymo. Looks like the future of Uber, but it’s not the app you’re trusting when your flight boards in 45 minutes. You saw the stats for QBs against the Lions – the guys they throw the ball to tend to feast as well.
Lions Fan Editor’s note: I do not endorse the Waymo comparison with Waymo Williams on the other side. This hurts, Jay.
Tight End
Tucker Kraft: START, TE1
If averaging nearly seven targets and five catches over his last three games wasn’t enough, Tucker Kraft gets a matchup with the Lions. Detroit is allowing over 30 points and 109 yards per game to tight ends. You may find it shocking, but that’s the most.
Defense/Special Teams
Green Bay Packers: SIT
Detroit has turned it over once all season and is tied for the most points per game.
Detroit Lions
Quarterback
Jared Goff: START, QB1
Currently the QB2 on the season (it could sway a tad based on league settings), it still feels like a scary proposition starting Jared Goff against a Packers defense that leads the league in interceptions and allows the fifth-fewest points to the position. But I don’t care. A game total pushing 55, a quarterback averaging nearly 300 passing yards per game with an EPA/dropback of 0.31 (sixth highest), and the constant need to air it out thanks to a defense that couldn’t stop the Little Giants, Goff’s a must-start across the board.
Running Back
Jahmyr Gibbs: START, RB1
Sione Vaki: SIT
Jacob Saylors: SIT
Jahmyr Gibbs is the RB1 in all the land for fantasy football. Why? Just like TikTok, if you give him an opening, it’s over. One second turns into 20, and before you know it, he’s been running all day.
Wide Receiver
Amon-Ra St. Brown: START, WR1
Jameson Williams: START, WR3
Isaac Teslaa: SIT
Amon-Ra St. Brown hasn’t put up elite numbers over the past few weeks, but I mean, come on. Are you going to complain that your WR1’s production is “down” when he’s averaging 10 targets, six catches, and 54 yards per game? His floor is about half the league’s ceiling. The Packers are a middle-of-the-road matchup for receivers, but with an expected shootout, you’re starting both ARSB and Jameson Williams. Jamo is riskier than usual, though. Green Bay has only given up two completions of 20+ yards, the lowest total in the league.
Tight End
Sam LaPorta: START, TE1
Similar to the situation with the Lions receivers, Sam LaPorta is in your starting lineup despite the difficult matchup. LaPorta ranks inside the top five at tight end in targets, catches, receiving yards, and fantasy points per game.
Defense/Special Teams
Detroit Lions: SIT
Detroit leads the league in sacks, cool. The Lions also allow the most yards per game, aaaaaand this total is sitting at 53.5 at the time of writing. And could go higher.
